Based off the reports of what CAL had to give up to get Monahan off the books, there is going to be nothing going back in a Barrie deal.

Hes a career dash player that is 31 years old, and making a lot of money on a team that is 6M over the cap, how is he not?

smith and klefbom aren't placed on LTIR, that's 6 million right there. Monahan has struggled with multiple injuries, making him absolutely no where near 6.35 million. Barrie has a ton of offensive upside, although his advanced stats show he's a terrible defender (mostly true), he's actually improved a ton under Woodcroft and was a solid defender in the playoffs. If you're basing his defensive skills off of his career +/- you should just leave this thread. Horrible stat to use that means nothing. Not to mention Monahan's contract is 1.85 aav more.

I mean if we are talking expected goals for versus against, he also, has never been a positive either, so I am struggling to understand what you are missing in that category? If you put him out there for 60 minutes, the expectation is that he will get scored on more than his line scores. How does that "offensive upside" outweigh his defensive shortcomings?

I mean, yes, he is absolutely a dash player career overall, and hes also a dash player analytically, so I am struggling to understand your point? Any way that you look at it, he is a dash player, in the real world or in the world of analytics, he literally like the perfect example of an analytic working

I never said he wasn't, but you used his plus minus lol. All I said is he improved under woodcroft during the playoffs. Still don't need to send a first to move him, which was your original point. Plus / minus statistic includes all even strength goals, all goals with either goaltender pulled. I'm not sure why you're trying to tell me he's bad defensively when I already admitted he is lmao, this isn't news to me.

The ONLY reason for Edmonton to move Barrie is for cap relief. This deal gives them 2 crap players and $100k cap savings, so no deal.

Barrie has bee good for Edmonton, and he's been a positive player (GF% Rel) in every season of his past 9 except for the one in Toronto. He's not overpaid, he's not underperforming. They aren't moving him for nothing.

I will repeat again, he is a dash player both analytically and in real life, perfect example of analytics working.

Klingberg has horrific defensive analytics, doesn't mean Anaheim has to send a first when they trade him at the deadline.
