It should be the 2023 1st, I don't get the 2024.
The Sens need Thomson. I don't think they view Zub as highly as the fanbase does, and he will be a casualty of all the money they added while still on a budget. I think Zub is a one year own-rental in Ottawa, and they plan to replace him internally with Thomson, who will be much cheaper. Zub will cost 4.5M+ on an extension.
Dorion also really likes Crookshank, and he probably doesn't have a lot of trade value. If he is worth more to the Senators than he would be to another team, he isn't an efficient trade piece.
I highly doubt Calgary would take Zaitsev. They are a team who are trying to compete to win. They aren't going to want the second year of his contract at 4.5 million.
Also, if the Senators were going to give up that package for Weegar, he would probably have been a Senator months ago, even before the Calgary trade. The reason the Chychrun ask is so high is because he is cost controlled at a great cap hit/salary, and Arizona is also taking Zaitsev (which Calgary most likely wouldn't do, even know you proposed it). Weegar is simply not worth that much right now. There were two other big name RHD traded this off season. John Marino and Tony DeAngelo. John Marino went for Ty Smith, who would probably be similar to Brannstrom after the bad season Smith had, and a 3rd. Tony DeAngelo and a 7th went for a 2024 2nd, a 2023 3rd, and a 4th (all probable late picks from a strong team). Romanov was also traded. He went for the 13th overall pick, but he also was a non-arbitration RFA, which likely played a huge part in his value. As you can see, the Islanders signed him to a cheap contract because of that.
