Why is Barkov in this trade? He’s a superstar not a cap dump

I think it would have to be a 1st to get us to take him
The Sabres wouldn’t take JVR from Philly for less than a 1st,
so idk why it would be different with Hornqvist- especially considering we have young kids coming up that we want to get into the lineup
And we do already have three picks in the 2nd next year
I doubt 1 more would be of great value to us, especially since it’ll likely be a late one

Does any one know which 8 teams are on Hornqvist's no-trade list?

Maybe these teams (due to likelihood of missing playoffs): BUF, ARI, CHI, DET, SEA, SJS, MON, OTT

They don't have any 1sts to give, they blew them all last year. 2023 2nd is their most valueable single pick remaining.

Better add a prospect or more picks then.

It's his last year, and he produces something, so I don't think he's a straight cap dump. Buffalo isn't taking him, they aren't blocking their kids that have graduated to the NHL, and a late second isn't enough of a sweetener for them with what they have going on (not blocking the kids, plus an owner that is just fine with being just above the floor right now). Somebody will probably take him, might have to retain a little. If the market is such that absolutely nobody will take him, I still doubt buffalo is your team, but you would have to increase the compensation. We just aren't buying right now- owner frustrated with losing money and sucking for so long.

No contending team will take him. He makes too much for anyone to afford him. Florida can’t really afford to retain very much, not a meaningful amount anyways. They will have to dump him to some team that doesn’t need hornqvist, and if a team doesn’t need him then they will charge Florida for the dump. Doesn’t have to be Buffalo, but it would basically be a team that is currently in a rebuild or just finishing their rebuild and has the cap space to take hornqvist on
