Tank for Bedard

Created by: Kyle_Okposo_Lover
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 25, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Honestly is is pretty hard to predict anything and this is all contingent on Anaheim getting Bedard. If they get him, they need to go all in for the three years he is on his ELC. DO whatever you can each year. This includes signing Zegras and Drysdale to 3 years deals to maximize cap space.

- Kane is super interesting as a free agent, and really would make sense to go to Anaheim as they are entering their window and he has young talent to help develop and thrive along
- Barbashev will likely be a player who struggles to get the long term deal they desire, so a 2-3 year deal with Anaheim makes sense, and obviously fits Anaheim's desires as well
- I explained the two trades but a 2nd and young roster player for a 2LD pending UFA makes sense, and an even better young roster player, 2nd and asset flip for a high paid, old player makes a lot of sense for Philly after he has a down year. I am a huge Ellis fan but Philly is going to be horrible, thus lowering Ellis's trade value
- Not sure what Terry will get, but I cant imagine it is long term. Price will probably be higher so feel free to imagine he makes another 1-2 mil more. It doesnt really impact this AGM
- I do imagine that after this season, Gibson will be traded and Dostal will start. Dostal, in my opinion, could be the best NHL goalie in a few years. He is so incredibly talented. Anaheim is set for goalie for the next decade

And again, this is just an idea of what could be. Dont be the guy who says that this will never happen. The point is to see what they could become if a few things go their way

Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Ellis, Ryan
Additional Details:
I feel like people will say this isnt enough for Ellis, but he will likely lose most of his value after playing for Phily this year so after a down year in Philly, this seems about right.
PHI
  1. Henrique, Adam
  2. Jones, Max
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Agreement in place to where Philly flips Henrique at half retained to a team who wants Henrique.
2.
ANA
  1. Grzelcyk, Matt
Additional Details:
I think that Boston is going to really struggle this year, lose Pasta, bergeron retires and they have to ship off their assets. Grz is a very solid player but seems to likely be on the outs. They get back a solid roster player and pick at the 2023 draft
BOS
  1. Groulx, Benoit-Olivier [RFA Rights]
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Cant imagine anyone has a problem with this. this seems to be his value imo

This team is far too good to get Bedard or even "Tank".

It's a 23-24 ACGM, so post acquiring Bedard

this is all the year after this upcoming season. this seasons team is very young and will be going through a lot of struggles with the young roster. I also think that this seasons defensive core is very very very bad. Not a single defenseman excites me besides Drysdale.

I don’t like either trade for us honestly

Ellis isn’t the type of defenseman Verbeek has said he wants and I don’t think Grzelcyk is worth that at all

JD contract seems fair but Zegras and Terry get more money and years

Kane and Barbashev aren’t UFA signings I think we should make

Ellis has too many serious seasons lost due to injury for me to want to take on. Prime Ellis I would absolutely trade for. Last season he got 4 games before he went down.

I'd swap Zegras and Terry, want to keep that team Canada WJC magic alive.

Strome didn't sign here to be a 3rd line guy, and Silfverbergs career is probably over due to blood clotting.

I'll have to mull over the Kane signing.

Gibson has the potential to return to form. Too much talent on this season's roster with McTavish coming up too. I don't see them being that bad.

I know. They're not going to be bad enough to get Bedard, the year is irrelevant to my comment.

I'd dump Ellis for free. I'd gladly accept that offer

Henrique is the best player in the PHI trade right now. PHI would be adding to Ellis to get Henrique.

As much as I'd like to think Bedard can hop in and be a 1st line center during his rookie year, the reality is that he's still lacking defensively, he's going to have difficulty with puck battles, and giving him those hard 1st line center minutes could hurt his development.

There was a reason he was on RW with McTavish and on the 3rd line during the WJC, he's still a kid.

I feel that once he gets a few seasons in and he's 22-24 years old that's when he'll make enough of an impact to get whatever team he's on a chance at the cup.
