Why would Detroit trade their 2nd best for a top six player who they don’t need.

With Larkin, Copp, and Suter as our top three centres and with Kasper and Niederbach on the up there's no need for Dvorak.

LW and Centers are the last thing we need, We need more RW then LW and Centers. So Detroit sill passes.

Detroit declines. We don't have anyone to replace Hronek right now at RD. Plus our top 6 is set.

Yes but Dvorak has 3yrs left on his contract and if they keep him until he has 1 season left this trade has 2yrs before it happens!! Will Hronek still be a Red Wing in 2 years?

Short of having a crystal ball this trade is too far away and too specific to really predict with any accuracy. Yes, this could happen I guess so it is plausible but there is a good chance by halfway through the season 1 or both teams won't want it to happen.

A statement like this makes you seem a bit crazy like a 16th century philosopher. It would be much better to say something like: The people saying that have no idea what they are talking about. I have no idea if that is true, but you come off far less crazy saying it that way.

All of you besides @aedoran are pretty much using todays team as a basis for why or why not the trade makes sense, which is pretty pointless. Is Dvorak coming off back to back 40 goal seasons? Did Filip Hronek win the Norris trophy? Are both of them starting the year on LTIR? Was Montreal again one of the worst teams in the league for the 3rd year in a row and that 2025 pick is a lottery pick?

Whole lot to unpack here but at that point Hronek isn’t even under contract any longer and neither is Larkin, Vrana, Bertuzzi….

Anyways, that’s probably a TERRIBLE deal for MTL today or 3 years from now 😂

Oh crap! I didn't realize this was 2024-25. There's probably a good chance Hronek won't be a Red Wing. 🤣

in three years time Dvorak is a 29 year old rental. Larkin will still have 6 years left on his contract, Copp will have two years left, Kasper will be on his last year of his ELC and Niederbach will have one year left on his. The only centre in Detroit that might not still be here is Suter.

Why do you think I even mentioned Kasper and Niederbach? Niederbach isn't even signed yet, how can you possibly claim that I'm using today's roster to evaluate the deal?

Larkin hasn’t been extended and it is possible he’s traded or doesn’t re-sign. (Odds are he re-signs) but he hasn’t yet.

Suter is a free agent after this year and with Copp, Rasmussen & Veleno under team control at least through the next 2 years it is very unlikely he’s re-signed and most likely traded.

Kasper may or may not be ready at that point nor do we know if he will even be good enough to warrant passing on a potentially better option 2 full years from now.

Neiderbach is a fun prospect but it’s 50/50 he doesn’t become a regular NHL player.

So, yeah, you’re kinda putting the cart before the horse deciding if the move makes sense for us or not. But that’s kind of the thing about people making future ACGM’s, most people don’t take them serious enough to comment in such a matter of fact manner like a lot of the people commenting on this one.
