That is a horrible trade for the Oilers to get essentially 1 yr of Mayfield. Massive overpayment. wtf!?

Odd team for a guy named BouchBomb. We need money to sign Bouchard next year. The obvious play is trade Barrie next year and use a RD rookie for 3RD. What's the plan to get cap space with this roster.

Mayfield for Barrie just doesn't work - Mayfield fits well on the Isles because he's an RD3 who can slide up the lineup, kills penalties, and is paid about what you'd want to pay a bottom pair D($1.45M). Tyson Barrie is a better offensive option, sure, but he's paid 2x$4.5M and would -not- push Ryan Pulock or Noah Dobson out of the RD1/2 slots, and he doesn't kill penalties well.

That being said, if you're going to offer your 1st round pick from this year, a 2024 1st, and a decent prospect in Samurokov, I think Lou has no choice to bite and figure out the PK later. Barrie's not a good fit but that's just too much of an overpay to pass up.
