Barzy is not at all overrated. He had an off year. If you watch him skate he's not at all overrated. And whally has shown glimpses that he can be elite, so hes not overrated.
I don't know what that has to do with Barzal and Wahlstrom being called overrated. You obviously think they're too highly rated for a reason.
I honestly have no answer. I have seen “top center” lists and noted Barzal was included at higher point than I am comfortable with. It doesn’t mean I think he is bad. I just don’t hold him in same regard as others do. As for Wahlstrom, I think some are expecting an elite winger and I am not sold in that.
But I do not have an answer why others rate these players the way they do. Others are more obvious answers, like Laine and goal-scoring. (Maybe it’s the stick-handling with Barzal). In general, I think attributes like size and “grit” often lead to a player getting higher marks than they deserve.

With Barzal , people are factoring in linemates and usage. Top 5 transition player in the league, elite at driving play at even strength and on the PP. The difference in his xGF and GF is significant. It's fair to call him a top 12-15 center in the league.
With Wahlstrom I see a 30-35 G, 60 PT 1st line winger with a good two way impact. Like a better version of prime palmieri. He's produced well and has had solid underlying numbers in his age 20 and 21 seasons in the NHL, most players like him would be in a top 6 role by now, but he played for arguably the worst coach in then NHL at handling young forwards. If anything I think hes been underrated, because he was buried by Trotz people just assume its because he hasn't been good.

Okay, I will keep an open mind about both. They each have a contract upcoming, so it will be interesting.
