He was extended 1 year because he's betting on himself. Last year he struggled with long-COVID and injuries, why would he go long term now when his value isn't high? That's silly. The team didn't want to go 2 years because that would lead him straight to UFA status. This way he's still an RFA under team control next summer. It isn't hard.

That's exactly what I was implying, it keeps his Trade Value higher and makes it easier to move him to another Team, which is what he wants in the end as well
