Next year with Newhook stepping up as the 2C

Created by: Poehling
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 20, 2022
Published: Sep. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am aware Byram Newhook Meyers & DuMoulin AAV could be lower. Just went with if they have a good season in 2022-23. DuMoulin make sense in my opinion, if one of Girard or Byram get injured, he steps in nicely in the top 4. Would be a good mentor for Spence as well on that 3rd pairing

Take Durzi instead of Spence and Kupari instead of Turcotte and I'd do it, assuming the Toews extension is reasonable.

The trade needs to happen immediately for it to be worth it for LA.

COL isn’t moving Toews for that package, if COL is moving a dman for pure futures it’s Girard not a top 10 dman.

Girard the better option to keep in terms of the cap. Toews will get a big raise and COL cant afford it, as you said, top 10 dman in the league. He will make around 7 mill minimum, look at what Lindholm got, and Toews is much better.

That's not for sure. His age maybe what gives the Avs caution. Avs will get a better return than this for Toews. If not, I would keep him as an in-house rental and go for the cup.

if they keep him, every UFA they sign next year will have to be making less than 1 mill and they will have a really bad bottom 6. If Byram steps up this year they are much better off selling Toews next summer and picking up some decent bottom 6 players.

How did you learn what the salary cap will be in 2 years before everyone else? Damn you're good.

Idk about in 2 years, but next year the cap will probably go up 1/2 mill and they have to make a decision to keep Toews Girard and Byram, and go cheap on the forwards, or sell one of their d man and get a decent bottom 6. I figure they probably get some cheap forwards and keep toews til his deal is up and either lose him for nothing or hope the cap goes up significantly. There will be decent guys for bottom 6 who are cheap, but it won't be amazing, it will be a leafs type situation with the bottom 6 probably.

According to who? His contract runs 2 more years and who knows what the cap does, or what moves they make between now and then, they could do any number of things including moving Manson before his NTC kicks in. TBL has kind of set the standard for pushing the envelope to it only matters for the coming year maybe 2.
