Description
A few things I want to talk about.

"Mike Sullivan likes starting with tandems when it comes to constructing his forward lines. These are the main ones Pittsburgh used today:

Crosby-Guentzel
Malkin-Rust
Carter-Kapanen
McGinn-Blueger " - PensInsideScoop

Assuming this is going to be a thing, there is only a few line combos that make sense.

1. Zucker/Guentzel - Crosby - Guentzel/Zucker
Rakell - Malkin - Rust
Heinen - Carter - Kapanen
Poehling/O'Connor - Blueger - Mcginn

Or

2. Guentzel - Crosby - Rakell
Zucker - Malkin - Rust
Heinen - Carter - Kapanen
Poehling/O'Connor - Blueger - Mcginn

Or

3. Guentzel - Crosby - Rakell
Heinen - Malkin - Rust
Zucker - Carter - Kapanen
Poehling/O'Connor - Blueger - Mcginn

Which one do you guys prefer? If the team is confident about Zucker's health I dont hate the idea of letting him play with sid and jake so we can stack the 2nd line.

Another thing is the status of Poulin. "Mike Sullivan says Sam Poulin is “light years ahead” of where he was this time last year. Sounded really high on what he can do at center and how he handled that move last year." This seems to be a growing trend since mid way through last season. After a horrendous start to his AHL career, Poulin put up a respectable 30 points in his final 50 games, he seemed motivated, then Corey Pronman who covers prospects for the athletic singled him out as being very good in the prospect game, now he is having a great camp. Seems like he has really been putting in the work, since midway through last season. What does this mean to you guys? If he continues on this trajectory I think its possible he could force his way onto the team. This might be a bit off the wall, but how about trying him at 3C (So carter can transition to the wing) like this:

Guentzel - Crosby - Rust
Rakell - Malkin - Kapanen
Zucker - Poulin - Carter
Heinen - Blueger - McGinn

Or, if you are one of those people who love having depth, you could try

Guentzel - Crosby - Kapanen
Zucker - Malkin - Rust
Rakell - Poulin - Carter
Heinen - Blueger - McGinn

I guess Zucker and Rakell fill up those 2 top 6 spots, and Heinen and Poehling fill the bottom 6 ones. Would be so cool if one of Poulin or Puustinen could crack the lineup.

My only question with your line ups with Poulin is can he play on the PK? Otherwise it is Blueger-McGinn and Carter-Rust? Wouldn't want to overbear Rust with PP and PK time.

There are a community of people who want Kapanen to get a shot on the PK. That’s what I would do in the scenario Poulin makes the team. He played it in Toronto and played it pretty well, not hard to believe because his speed is so damn good. Just like you wouldn’t want to overwork rust I wouldn’t want to over expose Poulin by giving him too many responsibilities in his first year.

I’d say scenario two would be most likely. I think Poulin would really have to go off in camp and preseason and/or injuries for them to give him a shot at the beginning of the season. Zohorna has looked good too and seems to have gained a step. I just think there is not enough spots without injuries.

Of the three options - I'm going #2 for sure. I'm not against the idea of playing Zucker with Sid, i think he can be a Kunitz type player - but I would prefer if it was in place of Guentzel and reuniting the 59/71/17 line to create a dominant 2nd line.
