Description

With Gabe not even skating, i'm preparing for the long haul absence. I think Kaut makes the team and I think either Ranta or Olausson make the team as well. It makes more sense time/money wise for Ranta to be the one to make the team as it will save another year of ELC for the Avs. Once the cap goes up, they'll be fine, but ELCs are always a great way to have quality play at a discount.

hes not going on LTIR

You cant accrue cap space with players on LTIR and there is no reason to put him on there. The length of him being out might be 2 weeks or so.
This is why they probably will sign Galchenyuk off his PTO. Fills the short term need for the fwd, dont have to mess around with Slides in Oskars ELC, or demoting Ranta if he earned his spot etc.

That’s why Vegas had to play games with 16 skaters, they used all their ltir and couldn’t accrue enough cap space to even make a call up for guys who just were on regular IR

Avs just roll with Landy out for a bit and accrue that cap space towards the deadline, it’s the smart direction to go, can save themselves some asssets of they can just absorb contracts and don’t need the team or a third team to retain
