IMO the Atlantic is wide open other than at the very top where Totonto will win and Tampa will be 2nd. After that Ottawa, Montreal and Florida will fight for 3rd-5th followed by Boston, Detroit and Buffalo

I'm sorry what? You have Montreal fighting for a 3-5 spot? C'mon... I know you're a Habs fan but even you know that's not happening. They're not better than Florida, Ottawa or Boston. They're probably not better than Detroit. They will be fighting Buffalo for 7th... at best. They're looking for Bedard, not playoffs.

Fact is Florida got weaker, Boston maintained about the same and the Habs lost players sure but no one really knows if last year's roster improved on their 2021 playoff roster or weakened it since last year they broke a 100 year old record for man games lost. You can say all you want that injuries happen and should not factor into how good a team 8s, which is true for the most part but when you have 1 NHL caliber player (Suzuki) in your lineup and the rest is AHL players for almost a month it's hard to win games. Everyone keeps ruling them out but most of their lineup has something to prove this year. I seriously do not think they will be as bad as most think.

Oh they won't be as bad as they were last year, but they were MILES away from competeing for the playoffs, and I expect the same again. The fact of the matter is that they don't have Price again (who carried them in the 2021 season), they still haven't properly replaced Danault, Weber's gone. They'll be closer to 70-80 points than 50, but they would have needed to double their points total last year to compete for 3rd. That's not happening. Boston is still a 100 point team if you're saying they are the same, and Florida got weaker sure, but they're getting weaker from a standpoint of a team that just put up 120 points. Montreal will be far more competitive, but 3-5 is a big stretch

Danault has been replaced by Monahan (who has a lotto prove and is still in his prime) Price will be missed significantly but to say he carried them in the regular season (even in 2021) is a huge leap. Price was bad most of the year and we only made the playoffs cause of the expanded format. Weber and Petry are huge losses for us and the only thing we can hope for there is 2 of Barron, Harris and Guhle are capable of stepping up and proving they have what it takes (Guhle and Harris look to be in great form to do just that). I think Boston is a 90ish point team their best players are getting closer to retirement with each passing year. Florida lost a huge amount of talent,I don't think they break 90 points this year. Add to all of that guys like Drouin, Caufield, Dadonov, Monahan and Harris all playing for contracts and guys like Caufield, Monahan, Gallagher, Armia, Hoffman, Matheson, Dvorak, Dach and others trying to prove they are better than they have shown in the last 1-2 years, it will make for a team that should be in the 90 point range as well.

Florida will be about a 95 point team. They lost Huberdeau and Weegar, losing Weegar hurts. But they're still a top 4 team in the Atlantic

As for Montreal, Monahan is made of glass. If he plays more than 40 games, I'd be absolutely shocked. His hip was messed up pretty bad and he's been battling it for years. Saying that is a replacement is bold. Montreal also just do not have the high end talent. Suzuki is great, but he's not an elite 1C (MacKinnon, Matthews, McDavid guy). He's probably better suited to the Kadri role of a 2C than a 1C. Caufield is coming off such an inconsistent year, and now you're expecting him to do that over 82 games. He can do it, but to assume he will is very bold. Add into that Montreal's defense is shambolic at best, there's no one to stop pucks, and guys like Hoffman, Dvorak, and Anderson aren't looking hot, Gallagher is a year older. Sure, there's new shiny pieces like Dadonov, but to say that makes them a 90 point team is pure delusion. It might make them a 70 point team. Might. Unless Allen decides to become a Vezina winner, they're not sniffing .500.
