Description

The Avs don't have many assets so will need to be wise with how they spend at the TDL. Last season they also targeted mostly guys who they knew they would have a chance at re-signing, including Lehkonen (RFA), Manson, and Cogliano (UFA's).

In 2023 capspace will be at a premium for the Avs, so the ideal additions would be guys with term who are also cost-controlled at cheap caphits. They'll also need to replace Compher and EJ who will probably both be too expensive to extend in 2023.

So thinking along those lines, Evans ($1.7m x 3) and Mayo ($950k x 3) are two guys who could be useful as playoff depth and who can then over from Compher and EJ when they head to UFA.

Stecher isn't cost controlled beyond this season though. Cost certainty at $950k X 3 years is what is appealing about Mayo.

Maybe Avs opt to sign a vet in UFA for $1m instead, but if they're spending at the TDL for a rental depth RHD then they may as well get a guy with term like Mayo.

From someone who has watched quit a bit over the last 2 seasons not so much. Lindstrom took his spot in the 3rd pair out of camp last season.

Mayo has a cool name and all but he was statistically one of the worst NHLers in the league last year. There are plenty of equivalent defenceman in UFA/Russia rn they could sign to a cheaper deal for free
