23-24 Cap Compliance

Description
As for the Kane signing- Vegas love making big name signings. Makes sense to me. As for the price point it depends on how Kane plays this year honestly but we’ll see.

Logan Thompson honestly has star written all over him. When I watched him be the best goalie in the ahl next year I knew his game could translate to the nhl and his contract could be the best in the league by January at this rate. Such a stud.

Vegas loves offensive defenseman and Vince Dunn is just a younger and cheaper version of current day Martinez so no brained to me.

Vegas seems to churn out incredibly solid AHL forwards like it’s nothing and Paul Cotter is just another one of those. If he has a great year in the Vegas top 9 I can easily see him glueing into that lineup. Not to mention Vegas locked him into a 3 year extension for league minimum. That contract can soon rival Thompsons for best in the league.

For a bit of extra cap just send down/trade amadio and Hutton

  1. 2025 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Vejmelka honestly might be better suited as a backup meanwhile being mentored by Lehner. On top of that Arizona can’t be terrible for ever although I think they’ll try lol. But how can u say no to lehner on a discounted cost.
ARI
  1. Lehner, Robin
Additional Details:
I love him but cap space is king. It’s such a Vegas move to trade him
2.
VGK
  1. Dunn, Vince [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
He’d excel in Vegas. Especially with his fast paced tempo
SEA
  1. Martinez, Alec
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
I’m not even sure if Martinez is a negative asset at this juncture lol. I’m just adding a third to make up for the fact that they’re the same player but Dunn is obviously the younger version.
3.
VGK
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
He’s better than Carpenter, Hunt and Reaves so he can replace any of them on the 4th line. Also he’s on a solid contract hence the 3rd rounder.
NYR
  1. Carrier, William
Additional Details:
Honestly Very solid player but Vegas just have to much forward depth. Played great in limited time vs chicago today.

I said In the description that it’ll depend on how he performs this year. And honestly it’s not super far off especially to play for a good team. Look at Giroux for example. I think Term gets it done. Sure he can probably get $8+ on a 1 year but if he preforms bad he might get less than $4 the next. Especially with the cap going up gradually and there being a million teams near the cap your gonna see GMs being stingy. I just think it’s a culmination of things that made it make sense to go with that number.

You don’t just dump cap and get a good return for it. Vegas would be sending the picks to Arizona to take on Lehner, not the other way around.

Imagine being Lehner, going from one of the most energetic environments in the NHL to…a glorified practice rink.

It would truly be the most VGK move, but I imagine ASU is on his NTC. Same with Martinez.

Then again, it didn’t stop them with Dadonov, I guess.

Lehner a bad contract? Especially in a day and age where good goalies are hard to come by. I honestly should’ve would’ve gotten more. I mean sure he had a bad year on a meh year on an injury riddled Vegas team but prior to that he was incredible. He’s definitely not a negative asset and the Coyotes need a goalie.

Lol yea I was looking at fits and most teams are kinda good on goalie. In terms of desperate teams with poor goalies it was inevitably down to Chicago and Arizona and just went with the latter and thought it would’ve been quite the Vegas move to do so.

As for Martinez I thought going from one expansion team to another seemed fine. I’m sure he’d go to Seattle no problem.

Seattle's still a younger team building to contend in the future, it makes much more sense for them to keep the 26 year old Dunn rather than trade him for Martinez who's a decade older and a mid-round pick. Dunn will contribute much more than Martinez over the long run for the team, as he'll be an RFA whereas Martinez will be a rental by next year, so from that standpoint there's not really any reason for them to do this trade. I think it's more likely that if Vegas trades Martinez it'll be to a team more ready for a cup push who would be better suited to acquiring a veteran rental.

Vegas needs to clear cap on this scenario, correct? While he isn’t a negative asset, nobody is going to help Vegas for free. When this supposed deal would be done, Lehner would still be owed 10mil over 2 seasons. Cap space will be hard to come by, with the main teams being Arizona and Chicago. Do you really think either would pay to take on 5mil for 2 years, especially when Vegas has no leverage?

So Lehner not being a negative asset is irrelevant. If they need to clear cap, they either pay the price to dump cap or they have to stick with Lehner. Unless a contender becomes quite desperate for a goaltender, Arizona and Chicago will likely be main options. And I highly doubt that he would waive his M-NTC to go to either.

I like the Dunn is younger and better so Seattle trades him.

Arz is a long way away from being decent. Lehner makes no difference. And Arz is pretty good at getting paid to take on cap. Two 2nds and a 3rd for Andrew Ladd. Who knows how Lehner comes back from hip surgery, etc...
