so what do we do now

Description
Losing Bertuzzi hurts, but now losing Vrana too is crippling, and finding replacements is gonna be crucial.

While they're not perfect options, the temporary replacements I'd suggest are Kubalik and Söderblom. Kubalik has looked alright so far this season, putting up points with solid underlying numbers. The same goes for Söderblom, despite only having one goal, his expected goals is number one on the team and overall he has had a wonderful start, looking decent on both ends of the ice.

I'd personally go with the more experienced of the two, Kubalik, on the 1st line with Larkin and Raymond, and Söderblom on the 2nd line with Copp and Perron. I'd also like to see Berggren called up, as he looked decent in camp and could potentially provide some much needed scoring for the 3rd line.

Another option would be having Zadina switch to the left wing and playing on the 2nd line, but I'd rather see him stay on his correct wing. However, if either of the two left wingers struggle in the top 6, he's the first option to move up.

While the playoffs seem to be out of reach for this season, having our hopes crushed like this so early in the season hurts a lot. It does however, give us a chance to survey how different players would do in the top 6, which should be interesting.

Oh and also, call up Edvinsson. He deserves to play in the NHL.

I think Berggren is also hurt, scratched last night in GR. Huge bummer for the team, got a hot start going then lost 2 of the top 6 immediately.

Hopefully Bert's back on time. Vrana we can only hope he gets whatever help he needs.

You're right it hurts losing two of the better wingers. But Wings likely aren't a playoff team this season anyways. Maybe some younger guys can fill the void and show growth.

Even with Bertuzzi and Vrana Detroit wasn't a playoff team. So we lose a few more games than expected and end up with a better draft position.

I don't think they want Soderblom playing 2nd line minutes yet. In the SHL they play about 50 games in a season and their season starts in September and ends in March. Playing with Rasmussen on the 3rd line with their size they have to be hard to play against. Plus if he isn't scoring he's still contributing defensively. You don't want to overwhelm him especially since the is first time playing North American hockey! It's exactly how they did it with Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

I think Zadina will see a good portion of time on the 1st line. He worked him ass of last season even and though he wasn't scoring he was still contributing. Plus Copp has played a lot more winger in the NHL than he has played center. So I'd keep Perron there to give Copp a little stability and move Kubalik to the 2nd line.

Off topic:
I was wrong about the rights of a conditional draft pick and didn't think or know you could even trade a pick like that. So I learned something new and thank you for that.
