i mean id probably do that as an islanders fan. But, I am a big Amirov fan so IDK how others would feel. If we are sellers at TDL this would make a lot of sense.

I think it would be in poor taste to trade Amirov right now

Amirov has ZERO value right now

However, if Amirov later this season is all clear and playing well (he was the Leafs 2nd best prospect until the cancer), then he does have some value, not sure its that high, and still think it in poor taste to move him but its possible.

But doubt Amirov even once cleared and playing well will have enough value for this deal, (chances are it'll be another season to get back on track, if ever).

And again, its all based on Muzzin staying on LTIR to make any of this work under the cap, and its unlikely he'll stay on LTIR

Gotta top the Josh Manson package for Mayfield (very similar players+Manson fully retained still cost $600K more than Mayfield's full cap hit), and I don't think a late 3rd and a prospect who hasn't hit the ice yet are enough to do it. Hirvonen & a 2nd is what I'd target, and I'd throw in full retention to give you extra cap flexibility around the deadline.

Manson had a much greater reputation than Mayfield, so getting a 2nd and an okay prospect is more than you'll get. Maybe a 2nd total is fair. I know you Islander fans want a 1st plus but it's not happening.

NHL GM's do crazy things for RHD, Ones making 1.45mil would get a 2nd and good prospect. I think the Leafs only make a move for a dman if they make a coaching change.

I think the Leafs are looking at adding a defenceman already but I am not sure Mayfield is the answer. Not good enough at moving the puck

That's why I believe that fans will be disappointed in the type of dman we get if SK is the coach.

I will admit that I am not sure Keefe is the right guy but I would be surprised if he does well at the same time.

Don't have any JFresh cards or whatnot, but they're very similar players so not sure why Manson would have had such a stronger reputation than Mayfield. They're both middle-pair defensive D who are your PK1 guys, average about 20 points per 82 GP, with the biggest difference being that at the time he was traded, Manson had 22 career playoff games in parts of 8 seasons, while Mayfield has 51 to his name - and we all know GMs love to overvalue that kind of stuff at the deadline.

I don't think he gets a 1st unless the market gets incredibly tilted towards sellers, but I do think that if you fully retain Mayfield down to $725K, he should fetch something comparable to the Manson deal - whatever difference in value you want to ascribe to Manson's reputation should get washed out by the fact that Manson fully retained cost nearly triple the cap hit ($2.05M)

Agree, as much as Leaf fans seem to hate on RD Holl, Keefe still plays him 20+ minutes a night

So a 2nd and B prospect.

I think they have enough of those already, Rielly, Sandin Lily, etc. Leafs need some sort of size back there. As what's going on now needs to change.
Mayfield may not be the answer, but he is a UFA, NYI are off to a bad start and they have a lot of money tied up in their D core.
I think therefore could get him at a decent price. He's only playing around 18 mins a night.

Manson was a UFA playing 19 minutes a night, making almost triple what Mayfield is getting ($4.1M vs. $1.45M) plus had a partial NTC that gave him some control over his destination, whereas Mayfield goes wherever you tell him. Manson got back a 2023 2nd and Drew Helleson, who was in the 5-10 range in most of the Avs' top prospect lists. If you can think of a better analog for a potential Mayfield trade, by all means, let me know, but I don't think it's a stretch to say this is what the ask on Mayfield should be.

I don't understand how people just miss the problem all the time. They defend so well when they are organized but they still at times give up way too many rush chances against. That is what needs to be cut back on and I think it's more coaching than anything. That being said, I wouldn't mind a defensive addition. A Bogosian type to fight for 3rd pair minutes and be a good PK guy and be more physical.
