Breaking up the Band 2

Description
I had a lot of fun making the first one so I've decided to do a series of Breaking up the band trades each time with a different team. Most of my trades will involve Marner. It's been challenging times in real life so all I ask is for people to be respectful. For me this is more about generating hockey talk. I have no issues if you disagree with me, just be respectful and don't be a troll. Now let's get to the trade, also the trade partner will be a randomly selected team, and no team will be selected more than once.

Package for Marner.

2 1st(lottery protected)
Top 6 winger
Top 4 D
Top prospect.

Anyone who doesn't think Marner is worth that much clearly doesn't watch him enough.

Also here is a link to my first Marner trade if interested.

Trades
TOR
  1. Ekholm, Mattias ($1,000,000 retained)
  2. Johansen, Ryan
  3. L'Heureux, Zachary
  4. 2023 1st round pick (NSH)
  5. 2024 1st round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Johansen fits the bill for a top 6.
2023 1st is lottery protected, also if the preds acquirer any other 1st then they can use those instead.

I will admit I know nothing about most teams prospects. So im only doing a quick look at other teams prospects and I am choosing someone who's high up on that teams list according do the teams prospect ranking list.
NSH
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. Marner, Mitchell
Additional Details:
Holl is going to always be my throw in guy to balance out the caphit

I just don’t see the point of this from Nashville’s perspective. Even with McDonagh it creates a big hole on their blue line imo. Plus Marner is a winger and I personally wouldn’t do this unless it was for a huge upgrade at center for Nashville. It’s the more important position to team success imo.

I agree, the preds seem like a unlikely trade partner but like I siad I'm choosing teams at Random. Also Marner has enough skills that I think he could make a average centre look like star, do even though Marner doesn't play centre, he would still be a huge help to any team. He has the ability to control the game. All the Centre has to do is get open.

It's definitely a more balanced leafs team with a huge hole in goal still. Can't see the preds going this hard for a winger. I think the flaw in your formula here is wanting a top 6 winger as part of the return. If I'm spending the insane price to acquire marner it's because I have a hole at top 6 winger. I wouldn't pay this price to just upgrade the wing position.

It's way too much to pay for a player NSH wouldn't have interest in. It weakens the Preds current roster, and giving up a package of futures like that hurts them in the future.

I I'm generally trying to choose wingers that are in there early thirties players who career are trndind downwards. Atleast that's is what I will be doing from here on out.

Also I basing this on what the Yotes are asking for Chychrun. Which I believe is
2 first
A top 4 D
And a top D prospect..

If Chychrun can potentially fetch that much, a healthy Marner should be able to get a better package.

I think you are missing the point of this I don't expect any of my Marner trades to happen. I am choosing a random team each time I do this. I only doing this for some good hockey talk.

Also for everyone who is questioning Marner's value. I start a thread in the nhl forum come talk to me there about his value

Hey Hawkward I got a question for you. There is lots of rumors the Hawks are going to move Kane at some point. What kind of package do you think he's worth

With all due respect, I think you're missing the point of your own request for good hockey talk here. If you don't care about the needs or interests of the team you're creating a proposal with, or feedback from that team's fans, why bother making these Marner proposals?

If you feel Marner has that kind of value to TOR, I totally get that. He makes much less sense for NSH though. Taking away a top six center and a top four defenseman to add a top six winger makes them a worse team right now. Making the team any worse than they are now would be intentionally tanking at that point, so giving away three 1sts worth of futures isn't something anyone in that position would do.

Adding a forward making as much as Marner hurts them, when they'll already have a cap crunch next season. RW isn't an area where NSH should be looking to make a hefty acquisition. They've already got Duchene with term and a hefty salary. With Jeannot, Tomasino, Evangelista, Kemell all coming up behind him, adding a player like Marner is a luxury, not a necessity for NSH. They're selling the tires off their car here, to pay for a new paint job.

Maybe try CAR? They're in win now mode, and lack a game-breaking forward talent.

I'm hoping for atleast a 23' first. Which will be a late first cus he'll only waive for a contender. And I'd hope Davidson can pull a top 50 forward prospect in the league. That's the baseline I try to hold other armchair gm's to. Now if Kane gives a list of 4-5 teams he will accept a trade to then the price probably goes up a bit. If he gives a list of 1 or 2 teams then the price probably goes down a bit. A 23' first rounder should be guaranteed in any Kane trade tho.
For example say Toronto gets their goaltending in order and looks like the contender they should be, I'd hope Davidson could pull knies and Torontos 23' first for Kane half retained. If Toronto needs to add a kerfoot and holl for cap purposes then I'd expect a 2nd round pick for taking those contracts as well.

Thanks for you're insight Hawkward. You have been great to talk hockey with. I think I'm going to change up my asking price for Marner.
