That is pretty awful for Winnipeg. I'm not sure what the thinking is here, unless it is submarining the Jets.

Fortunately, EK65 isn't waiving for Winnipeg.

Jets get their PP1 QB and a much needed scoring threat in the top 6. They also get out of Wheeler and Pionks contract with big upgrades at those positions. This move would make them much better.

Is Karlsson even good anymore? 5 more years at 10 mill AAV for a 32 year old is not great. I would argue that Pionk is better than Karlsson right now and is younger and way cheaper (even with the retention).
I would love the jets to go after Meier but I wonder what that deal looks like as an RFA?
If Im the jets Im holding onto my terrible contract in Wheeler for one more year after this instead of taking someone elses

Karlsson has been great for the sharks this year. Pionk has not been good. His cap hit is scary but the Jets truly lack that #1 D that can run a PP. even if Karlsson is not the best defensively he’s probably not much worse than Pionk while providing way more offence

what? Pionk's been good. You wanna talk about "scary cap hit"? There might not be a scarier one then paying Karlsson 10 mill per for the next 5 years
Not too mention Pionk has been the more productive player over the last three seasons
