Messing with some teams

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 30, 2022
Published: Nov. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't think the Oilers need Kane but he does know what it takes to win and this team would be nuts to watch. I also feel this would be an all in this year type of thing as I don't expect an extension to be possible with Kane. If they could move Barrie and find a cheap replacement for him then maybe.
Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Kane gives Chicago a 3 team trade list and this ends up being the best offer.
CHI
  1. Bourgault, Xavier
  2. Janmark, Mattias
  3. Yamamoto, Kailer
  4. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Young roster player
Top prospect
2023 1st no protection
Janmark just for a touch more cap relief, maybe he gets a better chance in Chicago. They may need roster players if they sell a bunch at the deadline.
2.
EDM
  1. Gagner, Sam ($250,000 retained)
WPG
  1. Foegele, Warren
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)

Winnipeg isn't doing that. Gagner has been pretty good so far.

Nevermind wasting a retention spot on a league minimum contract

Doesn't make sense to have an all in approach this year. Next year we won't be starting the year in ltir so will gain more cap space by that deadline and that's when we can start having discussions of going all in. Doing it now can cost the team 2-3 years worth of the window being open.

I wouldn't trade yamo and Xavier both. Xavier has a higher offensive ceiling than Yamo and would need to play that spot when kane is gone.

I don't think they are trading firsts or prospects for rentals. I could see 2 seconds and yamamoto for someone though.

You guys always say that's one of our 3 retention spots no way we are doing that and then never retain on any other players.

Teams do that if they need to. Also I don't see the Jets selling enough to need 3 retention slots this year.

Likely not but this team would be nuts to watch.

Could maybe be Schaefer or some other combination excluding Xavier.

I don't disagree with you at all, but also need a couple new deals for Bouchard, Mcleod, JP Skinner and the rest of the roster. Only a projected 11M to do all that. Not saying it's impossible and players can be moved but it wouldn't be awful to try and invest a bit this year, might not be that much that I'm proposing but need to try and go for it a bit.

Yamo I think is safe for the foreseeable future.

If we are out by the deadline, and our play up to now dictates we should, then Scheifele, PLD if he doesn’t re-up by then, and one of Wheeler/Dillon.

Do you think they have the balls to move out that many players? If they move two of those forwards they might as well just do s rebuild. That's just my opinion. Dillon should be traded while he still has a decent amount of value and let Samberg or Heinola get some ice time.

From a fan standpoint and asset management, yes. PLD and FeFe for 2 playoffs is worth a lot more than for one, especially with retention, understanding that of PLD was moved, we can only retain for this year. Imagine the return on Helly with teams like Edmonton and Toronto absolutely NEEDING to win now! There would be a bidding war.
My POV is that realistically this is our final year of contention. Guys like FeFe, Helly and PLD will want out, so maximize their return for ready, or almost ready now players, shortening our rebuild and building around Perfetti, Lambert, Rashevsky, Heinola, Salomonsson and the rest.
No one would be off limits

And yes, Dillon should be moved as I think Samberg can bring the same game unless there was a better return with Pionk as he would probably be more coveted. I think Heinola could take up his spot on 2RD quite easily.

Honestly I thought the Jets should rebuild this year last year already. I agree that trading players with some term would be a far better move. This team doesn't have what it takes to make any noise if it even makes the playoffs. Time to see the light and move on. As for Helly I could think of 8 maybe even 10 teams that would be hard in on him.
