Is it rebuild time

Created by: pensfan21

Description
I don't want to rebuild, I think we could have had a shot at contending had Hextall built the team around more youth and speed. He didn't though and he got us in such a bad spot I fear that this roster cannot be fixed. All the bad contracts could cost picks to get rid of, and I don't think it's smart to trade away picks in our position. I think it may be time to pull the trigger on a rebuild at this point. I hate it, but it might be the best option going forward. What would a rebuild look like?

They aren’t rebuilding now or for another 2-3 years. It’s not the right move but they made it very clear the old guard is staying.

That’s why we won’t rebuild.

His choice. I'd want him to hang around, but he deserves whatever he wants. I think we could potentially do a quick rebuild and get some young talent around him to contend in like 2 years.

We won't but if we are far out of playoff contention middle of year we should

Yeah but Habs have a legit top 10 pick. MAYBE for Crosby at this point a deal like that happens at the draft after you know the exact number of that draft pick.

All of your players other than Crosby are similar to Gallagher on the Habs. Being paid for what they brought in the past as opposed to what they will bring in the future.

Here's the good news... You don't need to trade them to rebuild... Just hold onto your own picks and wait and your picks will be so high the rebuild will happen on it's own.

Yeah true. The issue is I could see us just being middle of the pack for next 2-3 years. Not making playoffs but not at the bottom. In a year with Bedard there it really makes me think we should sell some pieces.

Crosby is still Crosby. I as a Habs fan would GLADLY empty the picks cupboard for him and Letang and give Montreal a 2-3 year window. Hughes should totally do that if Pens miss playoffs.

Also if Pens are smart, and they are out of it by TDL, they make that move this year to lock down MTL's 2022 pick and get a chance at Bedard - even though I don't think we'll be deep down enough to have a real chance at him.

It may be 4 years, but 2025 and 2026 already have Elite talent earmarked. Misa for example is gonna be amazing. You might pick like:

11-16th in 2023
5th-10th in 2024
and stock picks like crazy for 2025

It's a long road but that's how real rebuilds work.

That makes sense. If I were them GM though I would still try and stockpile some 1sts for this years draft. Like Jarry is a guy, for example, that I could see getting a 1st at the TDL for a desperate team

That Buffalo trade is hysterical.... Jarry isn't worth a 1st alone, much less with UPL. If he was in Pitt he might be their starting goalie today.

No goalie, other than Fleury, has brought back a 1st in as long as I can remember. Jarry bringing back even a 2nd is unlikely. Not sure why goalies don't bring back a lot in trades... But it's just one of those things.

I guess it's probably because if you have a good one you never trade them, but if you want to trade one, he's probably not stealing games like a good starter should

I wouldn't say Jarry is an elite goalie, but he's one that I think a lot of teams would give a lot to have on their team. Definitely is in the second tier of goalies I think

Maybe if he had a cup or two he would bring that. Goalies who have not been through it in the playoffs just don't bring that return.

The 1st might have been too much. But I still think teams would give a decent amount to get him

Kapanen would be a good fit in COL, just don’t have the cap space for him
