Why would the Avs give up the two most valuable pieces in the trade for a bunch of crap?

Yeah Monahan and kovacevic prove that they could be valuable again but still this is not a good deal for AVS.

If mtl do a trade with Avalanche is because they giving some veterans (like Monahan) to help in being competitive in series which mean no giving actual roster player back.

Mtl would use there veterans who about to expire to gain asset like pick or prospect, no actual player roster.
