How do you look at the Toronto Maple Leafs and decide "the problem here is not enough money is being spent on the top six"?

You forgot to mention that Ovi is the full package:
GOALS! (career avg of 18PP Goals/82GP and 31EV Goals/82GP, and 0.48G/game in playoffs)
GRIT! (career average of 2.3 hits/GP)
LEEEDERRRRSHIIIIPPP!
and
PLAYOFF PEDIGREEEE! (Conn Smythe+ cup ring).

That's 5m for goals, 1.58m for grit, 1.58m for leadership, and 1.58m for playoff pedigree!!! (should make mention of his weight and strength too)

That can still happen while he's on the Capitals, I personally would hate to see him in another jersey at this point in his career. Only exception would be if he's joining the Pens to play with Crosby tears of joy.

This is definitely what is going to happen. He will break the record in TOR, it'll just be with the Caps on the road.

If it happens though it's like 3 season away or something like that. There might be a lot more suffering and perhaps the only thing that makes them happy at that point would be witnessing OVI break the record and the Leafs breaking the drought.

Now they need to trade Bunting/Rieilly for Fiala/Anderson.
They cannot have an underpaid top6 (Bunting)
