Trade Deadline Move

Created by: BenIslandersFan
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 18, 2022
Published: Nov. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They will have enough money at the deadline to make the move. I could very well see O'reilly being the piece Lou tries to bring in at the deadline. Also The least performing player will be scratched whether it's Bailey, Beau or Wahlstrom. I'm going to assume it will be bailey because he is awful. But all in all I see the likely move they make as Oreilly or Bo horvat (even though I would rather a winger like Kane or Tasresenko)
Trades
NYI
  1. O'Reilly, Ryan ($3,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
This amount of money won't need to be reattained at the deadline (so it's not actually part of the deal)
STL
  1. Holmström, Simon
  2. 2023 1st round pick (NYI)
  3. 2024 5th round pick (NYI)

lol you're not getting much more for an impending free agent who only has 8 points and is a -10 in 16 games

Right, because as we all know, trade value hinges heavily on a a carefully selected three-week period. Never mind that ROR's point total is only a chapter in the book of things he does to help his team win, or that he's NHL player of the week, or that you likely wouldn't be the only team tossing a hat into the ring, or that the Blues almost certainly won't be selling at the deadline. This is barely more than Chiarot got last year coming from a tanking basement dweller team. CHIAROT.

this is also more than what Giroux got! Do you understand positional value?

ROR is not getting much more than this. He is getting older and teams may fear regression. You say pass so easily without considering the fact that if he is getting shopped at the TDL, it is likely because he is not going to re-sign. Are those 20 games worth it?

The islanders are not trading for another center - Lou wouldn't force Nelson to wing mid season, not his style

If Tippet and Holmstrom are equal (which tippet was widely viewed as a bust at the time), the scraps offset and the islanders first has far more value than the Panthers first. The Panthers 1st was 2-3 years away (2024/25 first) and the Islanders is the upcoming draft. The 2023 draft is also far better than any other draft we have seen since 2015, and 2024 and 25 are not expected to be as strong and deep. Like I said, if ROR is not going to return, he is not getting much more than this.

I agree but I just don’t think tippet and Holmstrom are that far off was more my point.

Positional value?!?! Top-6 centers are far rarer than defenseman. You can find your Chiarot’s every year. Also, the Blues are gonna be in a wild card spot by Tuesday morning and hopefully keep going so this likely becomes moot.

I would disagree. There were a lot of quality D moved last year, hardly any top of the lineup centers besides Giroux. Also like 90% of top-6 centers are more impactful than your average top-4 D

The 50th best center in the NHL is far closer to the 10th than the 50th defenseman is to the 10th, same goes for the 30th best RD to the 10th best RD than the 30th best center to the 10th best center.

ROR is going to get what Giroux got, maybe a tad more. Expecting a haul is just wild

ROR is not getting traded. If he were to get traded, he would get a lot more. Giroux had a full NTC and basically only would’ve gone to the Panthers

provide one trade comp of a player of RORs stature that proves they got "a lot" more than this.

Isles are NOT trading a 23 1st rounder for a over 30 yr old pending UFA...and a center to boot!

Oh I’m saying he will get much more than Giroux did, this seems reasonable enough. I think they could get a better prospect from a different team though. So basically a 1st round pick in 2023 instead of in 2 years and a legitimate prospect/player
