When has a high-skill pending FA ever gotten what homer ACGM fans think he’s worth?

I don’t care about the trade. I wanted to see what the $ looks like. Don’t think I’d go to 9 for either guy too.

Where does Graves fit? I’d like to keep him. Maybe Tatar or Haula but not both? Can’t believe in saying resign TT. Keep or trade Mac?

Tom’s going to be very busy before next season.

Maybe cause Tkachuk scored 30 more points, had over 40 goals and is 2 years younger as well as an 8 year extension already signed when he was traded

Meier would have to agree to an extention obviously as part of the pre trade discussions, and Tkachuk is born Dec 97 Meier Oct, 96 that’s 1 year not 2 and 7 goal difference and point difference is understandable when Calgary had a legit top 6 and sharks had 3 top 6 forwards. meaning Meier and Hertl where the main focus of every teams D. there closer in talent and ability than people think.

Completely ignoring the fact that no one trading for Meier would be interested in signing him to his 10m QO.
For all intents and purposes Meier is a UFA and should be priced accordingly.

Meaning what exactly?
That an arbitrator may award one year at 8 million+ should the chips fall into place?
I don't see how the possibility of an arbitrated one year deal would change Meier's trade value much at all.

Yeah, that's never been how that works. A basketball player scoring 20 ppg on a dog**** lottery team isn't gonna be seen as more valuable than a guy on a contender putting up 27 ppg, even if the player on the contending team has better teammates.

comparing basketball to hockey is foolish. they are completely different in hockey you have 4 lines in basketball you have 1.
in hockey you have the ability to set up 1 defensive line to offset another teams top line. and when you don’t have depth teams focus on elite players and limit their ability, put that player on a deeper team and he flourishes much like Kane did when he left buffalo for the sharks and then the sharks for Oilers.

now you have meier for min 1 1/2 years and if you can’t work out a deal that’s shouldn’t diminish his value but he isn’t a rental with multiple different options to keep him beyond just this year is all i’m saying.

So we should value Meier based on expected performance and point totals that he's never come close to because he'll be playing with better teammates? Any GM would be laughed at and fired if that's how they operated. Meier is closer to DeBrincat then Tkachuk in terms of situation and points totals. And that return should be closer in line but less because DeBrincat is younger, scored more goals, and has a full year of contract + RFA vs Meier who would be half a year of contract + RFA!

I don't think the Devils should resign Graves, or need to add another LHD for that matter.
Luke Hughes draw into the 2nd pair.
Smith, Bahl and Okhotiuk get to fight over the 3LHD spot.

I think it's too risky to resign Tatar and Haula due to them likely declining over the course of their next contracts.
I also have a hard time seeing either of them performing as well as they do now as soon as next season.
I'd prefer if the Devils let Holtz, Boqvist and a UFA like Bunting, Tarasenko or Kuzmenko in next season's lineup over trading for Meier and resigning Tatar and Haula.

and you would be laughed at because everyone knows chicago got fleeced and Debrincat should have netted way more.

And then how about what Fiala got? Did MIN also get fleeced? Two teams trading RFA wingers got fleeced? Or is it that's just what their value is because they needed to be signed to big contracts that many contenders cannot afford and many tanking teams do not want to pony up draft picks while they suck. So it's a smaller portion of the market than you may think and thus leads to diminished returns than many expect. But according to you we need to use Tkachuk as the benchmark and completely disregard the two other RFA wingers that were traded last year, got it.
