Don't think can include Tanev and Elder in the conversation as they were UFAs. It just might be the in my opinion the untraceable 8m X 7 extension was a mistake.

Letting them walk when both would have signed extensions was the mistake.

Sorry, "letting them walk" just isn't true. Players have the option of wanting to remain or not, not just the teams.

Both were willing to sign extensions to stay Canucks, but Benning didn't make them offers.

Just talking about the OEL trade. I wonder if LA would have traded down one spot for the #9 pick and the second rounder that went to Arizona.

If they had it would be awesome. Clarke looks like he is going to be a great defenseman.

For Chris Tanev, he was waiting for call but Benning never gave him one. We could have signed him. Benning went for OEL instead...

It might have been doable. The only equivalent trade I've found in recent memory is the Luke Schenn one where Toronto moved up two spots to draft Schenn at #5.

That's really too bad. He was a staple for that defence for years.

2014 Canucks drafted a lot of good players. Jared McCann, Thatcher Demko, Gustav Forsling. Too bad Benning shipped 2 of them out before they had a chance to prove themselves
