That trade probably increases the likelyhood that Minnesota misses the playoffs, so in the short-term, Edmonton is probably wins that trade by getting a high pick in the draft plus two impact players vs one.

Long-term both teams could be loser. Minnesota is going to have a tough team improving their team due their cap constraints, so I can imagine McDavid leaving in 3 years. If this new Oilers team can't get it done, then there's no reason for Draisaitl to stick around with McDavid gone. Kaprizov will then probably leave too once he's a ufa if they don't turn it around.

Good analysis I would add that McDavid might not leave because the huge cap constraints of 14+ million would be done in two years so the Wild would have tons of cap space to resign players or sign free agents to improve the team. But this is such a fantasy its kinda comical.

Yeah, but if he's losing in the 2.5 years that he's with Minnesota after leaving Edmonton now (after all the pain and struggling) then he's going to want to go to somewhere that already has a good foundation. Perhaps he could carry Minnesota with Boldy, but I'm doubtful.

If the OP said Kaprisov+Dumba for McDavid+Puljujarvi or something maybe there would be a conversation to be had.

I'd go Kap + Spurgeon for McDavid + Barrie and then MN gets to keeps their 1st.

Dumba for Poolparty seems more like a 1-for-1 trade than anything that adds any value.
