Address 2nd Line RW without Hurting Future

Created by: AdvancedStarsFan
Team: 2022-23 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 29, 2022
Published: Nov. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Stars upgrade on Gurianov at 2RW, hopefully getting that second line producing. That depth makes them scary. Panthers mail in this season, it isn't working and free up some space to take Duclair of IR. (If they send down to entry level contracts ie both Staals they save about 2 million)

Gurianov and Harley don't fit in the Stars system and need a change of scenery. As much as I like Harley he just isn't playing right now and we are going to kill his development. Florida needs a replacement for Weegar in the future, and have no projectable D prospects. Harley helps fill that void to some extent. Faksa while on a bad contract is an upgrade on Staal at 4C. Florida badly needs some kind of draft capital as they currently don't have a first round pick for the next 3 years. Dallas already has some prospects coming up so can survive without drafting in the first round 2 years in a row.

Stars replace and upgrade on Faksa with Motte by giving up Stranges who doesn't fit into our clogged center postion for the future. Recoup some assets to make up for our lack of first round picks while doing so. I am not entirely sure Motte's trade value so maybe remove the 3rd and Ottawa's second.

Dump Khudobin with a 2nd to make the cap work

Assuming Pavelski takes a pay cut to about 3 mill next year (or he is replaced by Borque, Stankoven or Johnston) they still have the cap next year to run it back, even if the cap only increases by 1 mill.

This is a team I could see making a run in the playoffs this year. As long as they can get past Colorado again, they are the best team in the West.

For the life of me, I have absolutely no idea how people's brain work anymore.

Trying to understand the Motte trade and for the life of me I can't. Also if FLA need to trade a player for cap reasons, why would you give them back two overpaid depth guys

For the right price I think he’d be a good fit. Couver fans be getting crazy asking for Stankoven… that isn’t gonna happen

A 2024 2nd would be a nice piece since we moved ours earlier. From there maybe a depth prospect or something? I'm not sure how to value them but maybe one of Bar, Fegaras, Kyrou or White makes sense with the acquisition of Lundkvist. I don't see any roster players that make sense, namely Gurianov since we don't need wingers and we'd be trying to shed cap.

I just don’t see it being a fit. Dallas doesn’t have the cap space to just take him. Kyrou is likely a no go. Also, our owners have beef lol
