Description
For the Avs, Newhook is someone they need to contribute now AND in the future. Trading him now means they have to lean on one of the scrubs who just haven't done that much. Meyers, Kaut, & Bowers have disappointed. This hurts their Cup run. With Foudy, the Avs absolutely love him and have been impressed with his raw talent. He's going to need more cooking to round out his NHL game, and can have that leash in VAN. Note: he was a big playoff contributor to the Eagles surprise run last AHL postseason. Foudy skates like a rocket, much faster than Newhook, is electric with the puck, and would bring a dangerous element to VAN. He's a pure offensive talent with top six C written all over him. He's exceeded his draft expectations, is COL's top C prospect now and IMO is a better fit for both clubs. COL pays a high price for a rental, but it won't cripple them. Looking forward to all the great comments!

I know Colorado won’t want to give that much up for a rental, but that could be beaten by other teams

Nooo, not Foudy out of all the prospects! The Avs need players on very cheap contracts that can play on NHL level.

I'm not big on giving up major assets for a rental at this point; to me, that's something you do when the window is close to closing and you're trying to squeeze one last run out of an aging core. They just won a Cup, have had some bad injury luck but the window is going to be open for at least another two years after this (hopefully, the cap goes up enough that they can re-sign Mikko and Byram and the window stays open for another 5-7 years). No need to go blowing big pieces right now.

Foudy has looked awesome imo, and I think Newhook is getting there. COL is just going to use guys getting healthy to be their trade acquisitions, because there is zero chance COL can re-sign Horvat unless they move some serious cap and no I don’t think moving Girard is enough.

Yeah, I'd think a more top-shelf prospect would have to be coming the Canucks way. JLF is cool and all but he's still raw and may never be more than a bottom sixer.

I do think they'll look to add. Toews had a good start to the season and the Hawks fans were all, "He's going to bring back a haul at the TDL!" Yeah, no; he's been ice-cold for a while now but the Hawks are bad. But maybe on a good team that can just plug and play him, it could work. I wouldn't give up a lot for him but he could be the right add rather than giving up major assets for Horvat.

Next year will be a big cap squeeze with almost no flexibility. I think now is the right time to swing a big trade.

Not if the cap goes up the way it has been suggested; at least not as bad as if they just get the $1M elevator. I understand why you'd say now is the time, I just happen to think the Avs would really regret losing JLF and their 2023 1st in a few years time; they'll need those cheap deals when Mikko comes up for his next contract.

I would agree they are looking for a value add, not a blockbuster add. I also think they have zero interest in moving the 23 1st.

My big gripe with foudy is his size, and I know that size isnt everything but we do need some heft in the centre of the ice, and he isnt the thiccccest of prospects either. He is reasonably heavy (177) but I would excuse his short frame if he was 190
