Detroit sure as hell isn't giving up 2 3rds for an injury prone goalie like Blackwood. Husso and Cossa are more or less our goalies of the future.

Timo's QO is $10,000,000 good luck getting him for much cheaper than 8 x $8,750,000 or 8 x $9,000,000.

Since the trade is done in Dec 2022, without a contract extension, the price is too high. Holtz + 1st should be the price with an extension.

Johnsson salary is league minimum. Meier’s salary is $10m.

By adding Johnsson’s cap hit, Devils absorb most of the remaining salary (estimated 60% season remaining).

SJS pays ~$450k (Johnsson salary: $750,000)
NJD pays ~ $6m (Meier salary: $10,000,000)

The Devils will not have to trade an A prospect to move roughly $450k in salary (especially while absorbing all of Meier’s deal).

Instead, San Jose should retain on Meier. For Sharks, it would be annualized dead cap of $3m vs $3.4m for taking Johnsson.

SJS pays ~$3m cash (half of Meier’s remaining salary)
NJD pays ~$3m cash (same)

So San Jose takes less cap, Devils pay less cash.
