A stud left D with term

Created by: Angusc
Team: 2023-24 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 15, 2022
Published: Dec. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Considering the Kings lack a star left shot D, how would you feel about having Quinn Hughes on your roster? This trade would give the Canucks 2 right shot D (which is a big need for the team) by acquiring a player being 1 year of UFA, a good prospect equal of Hughes' caliber, and a decent 1st.

Since Hughes is a 1st round pick, a 1st round player such as Clarke or even Byfield (if Horvat leaves) would have to go the other way since they're also 1st round picks. If Clarke or Byfield is too much, then change Roy to Walker, change the defenseman to one of Grans or Spence, Turcotte and add a 2024 2nd like this:

If Byfield is traded, add Compher to address the center position.

    I would need Byfield + Clarke + 1st 2023 + Durzi at least.

I'd trade Pettersson before Hughes and there's no reason to trade either of them, nevermind within the division. Pettersson, Hughes and Demko are all very much untouchable.

Hughes is simply off the table unless he DEMANDS a trade

I'd like to keep him, but the team is a mess now in terms of do we want to rebuild or is the team pushing playoffs and stay mediocre.

I think other than Petey or Demko, we would get more from LA by trading Hughes considering the Kings need is a good left shot D. We already have an overpaid left D in OEL.

If we trade Pettersson, which team wants him, and has the quality pieces equal to Peteys value we need now either on center or D.

One scenario i can think of LA wanting Petey is if Kopitar decided to retire after next season and adding Petey to address their center position so we get the same pieces.

LA declines, the price is too steep. If we want an undersized offensive defenseman, we'll just sign Ghost in free agency.

Kings decline. Price is way too steep. Could get Girard or Ghost who are similar (not as good) for far cheaper.

Pettersson and Hughes would stay even if we decided to rebuild. Don't stress about their trade values and finding trade partners because it's unnecessary strain you're putting on yourself. We have enough to worry about with our Captain potentially leaving and the Miller contract putting us in a bind.
