I dont think you get TWO years of retention for that offer, let alone the player

I’m with @Salzy — no need to trade while retaining Rico without a 1st coming back

Uncle Rico is only available with retention this year for the right price, since he is not a rental, we are in no rush to ship him out the door, as he is still our 1LW and one of our more productive scorers.

Ducks are in a rebuilding stage as Adam Henrique doesn’t fit the timeline it’s in their best interest to move him this year or next so they don’t lose him for nothing. If he is to be traded the ducks should retain salary because he is on a pricey contract to maximize the trade value. The benefit of trading this year rather than next is not only is his value is his highest now but also with his contract being half retained the ducks would save $5.8M over 2 years instead of $2.9M over 1 year which matters to rebuilding teams. The ducks won’t receive a 1st for him as the leafs have so kindly shown the league don't trade 1sts for old mid rentals; Nick Foligno. The Jeff Carter trade I was referring to didn’t even evolve a guaranteed 2nd round pick. Henrique is better than Carter so a 2nd round pick should be guaranteed. If Rickard Rakell didn’t get a 1st he won’t.

We're fine with taking the Rakell deal for him, next year when he is a rental. We are stating if you want him this year, and a full year of retention next, its going to be costly.

To expand on this, Kings wanted to move on from Carter, needed his spot in the top 6 open for a younger man, and wanted to clear some cap.

We don't need the cap space, we don't have a 1LW replacement ready to go, and we're not looking to move on from Rico, and we area already light at LW with him there.
