2023-2024 Bruins

Created by: JDHockey
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 21, 2022
Published: Dec. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Boston desperately needs a center prospect with some hype. As a draft day trade candidate, Carlo could fetch the next top-six center. If two of Poitras, Harrison, Jelvik, or Turcotte pops in the next five years the Bruins are set down the middle with Pastrnak on the wing for either. Also, I believe Bergeron stays for one more year to compete and develop a prospect like Turcotte. This team would be able to compete and replenish the cupboard without drastically selling.

I like Turcotte but he has been a disappointment so far. I don’t like the move. Re-signing Zacha for C2 would be smarter. LA does not need Carlo either.

Some notes. Poitras is playing wing in jrs. Harrison does not project to be a center in the NHL. More like a sniper wing. Jelvik is not a center, and while he may end up being a steal for where he was drafted, he is not going to be anything more than a complimentary piece if he makes the NHL.

Lysell will be RW3 and Debrusk RW1.

Forget Motte. Waste of precious cap space to give a 4th liner 2m. Lauko can handle that spot.

Excellent points. I still like the premise of expending a valuable piece like Carlo for a promising center prospect, especially because it seems Boston can draft and develop defenseman exceptionally better than they can forwards. To be honest I completely forgot about Zacha and yes he would be a great re-sign.

I would rather resign Zacha and wait on any kind of big trade to get a center. If Bergy comes back you have another year to look for a center.

It's hilarious that you would go shopping for a center prospect in SoCal offering a RHD, but you went to LA, who have enough RHD to supply half the leagues needs, instead of Anaheim who have centers coming out of their ears and are desperate for a RHD.

Anaheim is difficult because the only center prospects worth acquiring would cost more than Boston would be willing to part with. McTavish is certainly untouchable and I doubt they’d ship out a top 4 defenseman for anything less.

I don't know that there is any team in the league that is going to give up a potential star center on a ELC for Carlo in this cap environment. He is good, but he carries a lot of concussions for his age, and a team that needs a Carlo to push them over the top likely doesn't have that kind of center prospect floating around in their system.

What Anaheim does have is a middle 6 forward in Lundestrom who has gotten pushed down the lineup due to McTavish and Zegras being in front of him, and we have Gaucher who projects to be a top 6 center.

What it sounds like you are looking for though is a young top line center to replace Bergeron when he falls off, and I don't think you can buy that with Carlo.

Teams with excess center depth that I can think of off the top of my head are Anaheim, Dallas, New Jersey, Habs technically but a lot of their guys are old, Buffalo has Mittlestadt, probably a couple I am missing.

Your best bets may be trying to get Johnston / Borque from Dallas, or Mittelstadt from Buffalo. Maybe you can pry Pinto out of Ottowa, but its going to cost more than Carlo, I know their fans are saying they are desperate for a top 4 RHD.
