If Ullmark is willing to waive during the off-season, Sweeney should 100% strike a deal with LA. I think the deal would be much more complex than this, but for a cap-strapped team like LA Sweeney has the opportunity to fleece Blake(the reason why NJD didn’t formulate was because Fitzy felt he was being extorted for a goalie). I’ve wondered if giving PLD the “1C” label in a big hockey market would have an effect on his reclamation.

Alter the DNA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>well that's just the thing - you want a playoff style player and your target is barzal? I just don't see it. to me he's a perimeter player. dependent on the powerplay etc. I think what you want is what they already have. both zacha and coyle play a big style, and both get to the net.
The point is, and I think you recognize this, Barzal isn't an ideal fit. Stylistically, he doesn't fit the mold. Am I for any team going outside of the box a little here and there to get someone that can help? absolutely. but if you're making a franchise altering trade of a core member of the team, the teams top prospect, and two firsts - that player better be a perfect fit. If you're going to offer that, go get JEE.</div></div>
That’s fair. I respect a lot of your posts on here too. Sorry if my previous post was a little forward. In the end this is most likely moot because the FO value Carlos analytics and intangibles.

Alter the DNA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>I just couldn't hate this concept any more, and not because of my username. Carlo should be available in the right move.
Is this it though? I don't think it's close. You're moving the teams best non NHL prospect, two firsts (for a team that hasn't been drafting in the first round much) and Carlo for a guy that frankly just isn't a fit? god no. Barzal has averaged 73 points per 82 games over his career, and I don't like his two way game. Honestly, I think he really should be a winger. Overpaid, bad culture fit, heck of a player, but don't change the DNA for that.
ultimately, why would you change the DNA of this team. they're in a transition year and are second in the league. it's just a bad concept.</div></div>
Organizations and coaches utilize players differently than others. I think Barzal could be the dynamic 1C we need. If not you run Bertuzzi-Zacha-Pastrnak and Marchand-Poitras-Barzal. If there is another 1C option that fits better for them then definitely. I still believe this is the package it would take.
In regards to your last comment, points are fun during the season. Sign me up for wildcard placement and deep runs every year. It blows my mind the amount of Bruins fans who are content with regular season success and then use it for their agenda. In a copycat league, is anyone copying the Bruins system ?

I would agree. But I think this makes Pulock (higher cap than Carlo) expendable for forward help, and the possibility to flip the picks if need be.

If I am Boston, I’m kicking the tires on Barzal. Fits their needs for the future. I would offer the above package with added sweeteners and see if Lou bites. More than likely, other teams offer better packages but Bruins should get younger, not older.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TyeZerker</b></div><div>No thanks, the forwards are not the problem its the defense. Stop hiding from the fact the defence has been bad. Boston is not trading either goalie.</div></div>
If that’s the case, then Boston and New Jersey wouldn’t find common ground. The only expendable defenseman that could fetch Mercer is Carlo, but NJD are logjammed at RD. Boston would be trading from a position of abundance with Swayman for Mercer. That being said, NJ would be insane to trade Mercer this early in his career.

Bruins 2024-2025
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>This is very hard for Ottawa, the package is good and Carlo is also a big need. Lysell and the 2nd is not as needed but what makes the value fair... The thing is they also have Ridly Greig and Shane Pinto so a Stutzle-Greig-Pinto center line would also be excellent. On the other hand, Norris is part of the core and one of Brady's best friends... He's the most natural goal scorer on the Sens, and there's several guys who can score 35+ goals on any given season. Chabot could really use a Carlo partner, would help him get his game to the next level and RHD is not a position of strength for Ottawa (a LHD has to play RD)
Norris is a bit unknown for most hockey fans but before last season, he scored 47 goals in his last 91 games, 12th GPG in the NHL during that long stretch. He did that at 21-22 y/o while facing top competition every night and having quite good defensive metrics
So many arguments both sides, very hard to decide. I'd look if there was a way to get Carlo without Norris going the other way but I guess the only reason for Boston to move Carlo would be to get a Top C
Edit : by the way, since 2021-22, when Norris was 22 y/o, only these guys have a best GPG than him :
Matthews, Pastrnak, Draisaitl, McDavid, Ovechkin, Rantanen, Kaprizov, Kreider, Hughes, MacKinnon, Robertson, Thompson, Point...</div></div>
Great analysis, and the exact reason why I’d want Boston to target him. Injuries have kept him in the dark but he is a bonafide 1C on all 32 teams.

The market for goalies is so unpredictable I always aim lower with trade pieces. I still have a hard time thinking the Bruins receive a 1st in any Ullmark trade.

The same way Toronto paid for Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander and stayed competitive, only easier because (1) the cap is higher now and going up, and (2) Henrique and Silfverberg come off the books in 2024, Fowler in 2026 and Gibson in 2027.</div></div>
I would argue that they have allocated far too much in the forward position. How has their defense and goaltending done for them lately ?

Alongisde Terry, that's 4 talented scoring Fs which is pretty much exactly the standard for competitive teams. 2 per line with one of the Cs shifting to W. Unless you think McTavish and Carlsson are gonna explode onto the scene as 80pt players right outta the gate.</div></div>
My question is more geared towards if all 3 stuck at the center position. I believe McTavish is capable of getting close to 80. I see him as the type of player who will earn his cap number in the playoffs.
