They're unlikely to move a goalie. Kochetkov is waiver exempt if they feel like they need to move one, and Skyler isn't good enough of a prospect to warrant an outright move. No need to mess with this team right now, they're humming along.

I just feel like a goalie move is coming with Freddie almost being ready to come back but I can’t see them sending Kochetkov down seeing as how well he’s played. So imo that leaves Raanta as the odd man out, and I’ve noticed they’ve been giving him more starts this last week, just assumed maybe to try to boost value?

Kochetkov's also hurt right now. Freddie is likely going to require a conditioning stint. Raanta has been the least banged up of the three, that's why he's playing. They're unlikely to move any of the three. Kochetkov hasn't played since before Christmas, and Freddie hasn't been seen since the beginning of November, so it's just been riding Raanta. They're one injury away from Sawchenko starting right now.

Kochetkov is actually slated to get the start tonight, and Freddie will be back before the month is out I’m sure… I didn’t mean that them trading Raanta had to happen today by no means, I just figure if they do move a goalie down the road it would be him

If they move a goalie, it is likely Raanta, but I doubt they move a goalie. Freddie also has trade protection which means it is unlikely to be him. Kochetkov was also slated to start against Chicago and didn't, just because he was the first goalie off today like Walt said doesn't mean he's starting

I don’t know if you ever check out rotowire, but they had him slated as expected, but now have punched him in as the confirmed starter for tonight! Regardless if they do or don’t make any goalie trade, I just hope these guys can keep buzzing like they have been! The canes aren’t even my team but they’re a lot of fun to watch!! Happy New Year! 🥳

This situation has already occurred once before, in the 2020-21 season. Mrazek got injured early on, Ned was forced into an NHL role with Reimer as the tandem, and when Mrazek came back, the Canes chose to run 3 goalies instead of moving one. Why would that change now? Both Freddie and Raanta are injury prone, so moving one and leaving a big hole if the other were to get injured is a bit unwise. The same thought process was applied in 2020-21, and it’s what is almost certain to happen this year. It’s an embarrassment of riches to have 3 goalies who can play at a starting goalie caliber of play, so it would take a bit of an overpayment to get Raanta or Freddie out given the circumstances.

Besides, since both Freddie and Raanta are up at the end of the year, there is no risk like what happened with the Lundqvist/Shesterkin/Georgiev goalie circle where Lundqvist had to be bought out.

Depth is good.

Zero reason to trade a goalie.
