Certainly Flames can't afford Garland next season. No way Hayes waives for Vancouver.

Rangers aren't giving that up, for a player they can't afford long term.

Kevin Hayes doesn't waive for Vancouver.

Calgary doesn't have the cap space to take on Conor Garland once Huberdeau and Weegars new contracts kick in this summer.

Rangers are not trading a 1st round pick for a rental.

Rangers did for Copp

Did you ask him?

Calgary has multiple moves this offseason incoming as it is.

Calgary has multiple roster moves ahead before next year. We'll see that pans out.

Garland doesn't really move the needle enough to make that worth trying to figure next year IMO.

As things sit now, we only need about 2 mil in space to afford to bring up Wranglers or pick up a few league minimum guys. We only have to let Kylington or Vladar go. Adding Garland would make it a lot worse.

Fair enough. You think the young guys like Zary, Pelletier and Phillips fill out the roster next year?

They didn't do it last year either. They traded for Copp with every intention of signing him and tried to sign him long term, but it didn't work out, so that trade was not for a pure rental trade like Horvat would be. Apples to oranges. Sometimes in life, you have to actually think.

Drury took the same risk knowing he could walk. Besides trying to re-sign him they brought in a guy who wanted to sign elsewhere. At least Horvat is a much better player. Obviously Rags had a great run so it would be interesting to go at it again.

Fact is they don't have any big expiring contracts, except Lucic, who was included in this trade. It's so difficult to trade cap without taking equal cap back in Calgary's case next season when so many teams are capped out.

It's not the same risk because Drury had the cap space to sign Copp but they couldn't work out the details. They do not have the cap space to sign Horvat, so he is a pure 100% rental. Apples to oranges. Drury doesn't like trading 1st round picks for rentals, especially in a deep draft, so 0% chance this happens. And why would a Canuck fan want to trade Horvat to a team as a rental when they can get more trading him to a team that can sign him long term? It does not maximize his return which make no sense.

I'm not sure they'll get more than a 1st, 2nd and a solid prospect. I'd like to think so but who knows they might end up signing him instead if not. Van FO did it before and overplayed their JT hand and they probably want to sign Bo more than JT.
