Tarasenko isn't waiving for Winnipeg and with him being injured for at least the next month, the Jets would have no interest.

Trade deadline is in 2 months, he'll be back to full health by then.

Maybe. They said one month minimum and at his age that can easily stretch out.

Either way, he isn't waiving for Winnipeg and the Jets shouldn't be moving their first on any deal short of a trade for a young star player with term.

Just go after some cheaper depth guys at the TDL. That's all the Jets need.

I think with the fact they got an extra 1st last year, they will be more willing to move a 1st this year.

I like the sentiment, but I don't think STL will give him up with that much cap retention nor I think he will waive his NMC for Winnipeg. The Jets do need a top 6 winger as a rental for the playoff push and the can give up picks and prospects for one. I think they should pursue Kuzemenko from Vancouver. His contract doesnt have a NTC, he is gonna be a UFA at the end of the year and is not gonna re-sign with vancouver and is gonna be one of the hottest free agents. His cap hit is under $1mill which gives more space to pick up an actual back up goalie for the playoffs as well. Lucius, Lambert, McGroty are off limits. Stanley is fine being a cheap and physically imposing 6/7 Dman, they need to get Heniola into the line up. Samberg, Barron, Gustoffson and etc.. are just depth guys, nothing special and can use those in packages for a top 6 pending ufa fwd and backup goalie.

Genuine question: Why wouldn't veteran UFAs waive for a playoff run with a contender? They have no obligation to stay after the season is over.

Some will, more won't. Almost all players that have trade protection will have Winnipeg on it. So, they can just go to a different contender.

after 10 years run as a high quality organization i dont think high end rental talent will shy away of waiving their ntc to join the jets. yes winnipeg isnt the sexiest city for a high end ufa to sign to compared to the equally high taxed canadian markets. But a ufa waiving as a rental to wpg all depends on how they fair in the standings. In this scenario the author of thread is proposing, i highly doubt the blues will trade within their division. however with how well they are projected doing, it be silly for a pending star ufa chasing a cup not agree to join the jets for the playoffs.
