Think of it this way: That proposal has chicago handing VGK a substantial amount of cap flexibility, a goalie who is playing very well this year, and a 3rd round pick, for a goalie who has been massively underperforming, costs almost $3M, and is a UFA at the end of the season. Which means they are essentially handing VGK Stalock and a 3rd for nothing.

I will agree with you on everything but Hill underperforming. He is exactly what you expect from a backup goalie. Maybe even better than your average backup.

I like your points but I hate over exaggeration

I'm not over exaggerating, though. Stalock is a better and cheaper backup than Hill. As an expiring UFA, Hill is worth nothing to CHI, and as a rebuilding team, he is worth nothing to our rebuild. So, why are we giving up a cheap G that is playing really well this season plus a 3rd round pick, for essentially nothing? There is no exaggeration, its just the truth.

Also, it's not like we would resign Hill and we probably wouldn't be able to flip him for anything, let alone anything worth while. We have Mrazek under contract next year, and one of our "goaltenders of the future" is set to move to the NHL ranks full time as soon as the end of this season or beginning of next season.

You completely ignored the fact that I was responding to this line " for a goalie who has been massively underperforming". Chicago can keep their 35 year old goalie because it makes sense for them with a goalie coming up in their system.

Oh, yeah. Maybe massive is the wrong word. I guess I just expected a lot more from him considering his age and all the hype around him the last few years. He is making almost $3M this year, though. That is a pretty big contract for a backup, and, although he has had some brilliant performances, he lacks consistency. But he is still only 26 and could blossom given a larger role in the near future, so that is a positive. Either way, as a UFA and without an extension, he has no trade value specifically to CHI. He might have value with some retention to a team with playoff aspirations looking for promising G depth and/or someone with the potential to take over starting duties in the near future. But I'm not sure how much. Especially because other GM's will probably try to leverage VGK's cap situation against them.
