Description
**I adjusted cap to 83.5 million as it's set to go up 1 million.

I traded jeff carter to remove him off the roster/cap as there isn't an option for someone retiring but here is my thought, and this is total speculation but want to explain. He's been awful this year, he's 38 now and will be 39 come Jan 1 next season and just does not have it anymore. It'll be his final year of his 35+ NMC contract. I think he and Hextall talk in the off-season and he retires after this season, and with his contract not having any signing bonuses it should wipe fully off the book if I understand the 35+ contact rules.

I'm not sure the right fit for Kapanen, but I picked Nashville as they're having a meh year. Could be a spot he gets more PT and gets his stats up.

I would really like the penguins to bring Zucker back, his first few years were rough with injuries, but he's been healthy so far and a solid impact. I think Malkin would like to keep him around on his line.

I'm not sure what Horvat is going to be looking for $ wise, but to me I think he'd welcome the opportunity from having so much attention on him in Vancouver to being 3C in Pittsburgh and behind Sid and Geno both in the lineup and media coverage. The Penguins were successful when they stacked center depth, if they want to squeeze out one more run they need to find a sold 3C.

Old, getting older....

I think you're off by those UFAs, I think Horvat gets 7 or even 8 a year, Domi (based on production alone) probably gets 4, which means you probably can only afford 1 of those 2, which starts to make the team look lean....

While I think you get more than a 6th for Kapanen, Carter and his NTC at his age looks unmoveable....

And theres not much youth at all in that lineup, basically if they cant go really deep into this years playoffs, you're looking at a pretty dead end roster in 23-24.

Horvat will get more than 8 million for 7-8 years. Think Filip Fosberg contract as a comparable

You're at least $2,500,000 short on Bo Horvat.

And you're at least $1,500,000 to $2,000,00 short on Tristan Jarry.

FYI Jeff Carter will retire before playing in Philly, So you're still stuck with his caphit.

If Carter retires his cap hit stays.

You're high on Zucker's pay, but low on Domi, Horvat, and Jarry imo

So no one read my note at the top on the Carter move. I picked a random team to trade because there wasn't an option for retiring. Also, everyone needs to look up a 35+ contract which Carter is on. If I interpret the rules correctly and player decides to retire on his final year of his contract, which doesn't have any bonuses then the contract comes completely off the cap.

old getting older, i mean Domi and Bo are 27 currently, Donato is 26 currently? Not sure how young you can get. Guys that are UFA/RFA that are young like Larkin/Zegs/Cozens/Caufield etc are all most likely going to stay with their current teams, so age is just a given on being difficult to work with. The penguins need a better 3c option and that option isn't currently in WBS, so they need to go out and sign someone, whether that be Domi or Bo (and not sign the other) i'm fine with that.

If you have suggestions on guys that are "younger" that could reasonably be added by all means i'm here for it, it's just tough to look and see who that would be.

That's fair, like i said in my post i wasn't really sure what he'd be looking at $ wise. Hard to tell what someone like Horvat get's imo. I could see $7/yr idk about $8 but someone that has a lot of space may pay that.

At least $2.5mm short on Horvat is insane, if a team is going to pay him more than $8mm a year then by all means they can.

Jarry has been a solid goalie no doubt, but has had injury issues in his career, and as someone that watches him every game i'm not sure he's worth $6mm/yr specially as he turns 28 in a few months.

Please read my post on the carter situation. It's not an actual trade, there is no way on here for me to show him retiring.

I don't think his cap hit stays if I'm reading the rules on 35+ contracts correctly, remember he signed a 2 year ext. after the age of 35, there are special rules for those contracts and he has no bonuses linked to it so i believe if he retires it does come off the books, definitely not 100% on that.

If Zucker could be had for $4mm/yr then i'd be more than okay with that and would then say take Max at $4/4.25 per. I don't think I'd want Jarry for $6 as i mentioned to someone previously, but the more i look at the UFA options for Goalie this summer... it's not great, so Jarry may be able to command $5-$6mm/yr. Wouldn't want more than 3/4 year term tho

You aren't reading it correctly. Carter's salary in year 1 was 250,000 more than year 2, making his contract by rule "front loaded" and will stay on the books if he retires.

I was under the impression his cap hit stays - but wasn't 100% sure either. I looked up 35+ contracts on CapFriendly and it says "Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit regardless of the players location of play, termination, retired status, or a buyout" - so seems like it stays. As good as Zucker has been this year - I do think he will have to take more than a 500K pay cut due to previous years and injuries in my opinion. If you give all those savings to Domi though, I highly doubt you are getting Horvat or Jarry. I don't see any scenario where Horvat gets less than 7 or Jarry gets less than 5. Honestly if we are going based on pure worth looking at numbers, Jarry is probably 6mil+ - but I think he would resign for 5-5.5 with term.
