Bo Cannot Fit - Year 2

Created by: DefenseFirst
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2023
Published: Jan. 17, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The cap just doesn’t work for Horvat long-term. So can we stop with the, “sure, he isn’t needed on this roster but lets go spend all the assets on a rental that isn’t needed anyway because they’ll sign him!”

Below is basically the best case scenario. Bergeron comes back at the same deal. Foligno and Nosek take pay cuts to stay in the fold. Frederic and Swayman take reasonable deals. The bruins manage to end this season with a little cap space so there isn’t the full bonus overage. Cap goes up to $86M to help them out. 20 man roster which isn’t a thing.

Miles over the cap.

No, they can’t. Moving on.

I’ve made a similar post for the Avs/Horvat. Canucks fans still make ACGM posts every day where the Avs empty the prospect pool for extended Horvat.

Bruins have a deeper prospect pool than Colorado, but that’s not saying much.

The logical circles they’re going in is insane - when it’s pointed out that a team doesn’t need help at the position a rental plays, and they just say, “well just sign him,” it shows how little thought has gone into it.

Nuckheads will still post 50 Horvat to Boston and they sign him to 8x8.5 extension this week. And will be the same 8 guys that have been told and shown over and over again. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I could see Horvat being a pivot of Pasta tells you he's not coming back, but that's literally the only way it happens - no GM is gonna pick Horvat over Pastrnak if both of them are open to coming to your team, even if Pastrnak costs a couple million more.

I get what you’re doing and agree 100 percent. Even if you bought out Reilly and gave Frederick, Swayman, Bergeron, Foligno and Nosek less for a one year deal in hopes that the cap goes up significantly, it STILL wouldn’t work. Maybe trading Grizz but finding a suitable replacement would be tough. They COULD get lucky with the prospect pool but I doubt it! The current consistent defence is the main reason this group is successful right now.

Agreed 100%. It just can’t work. I feel like 80% of this board just remembers people talking about Boston needing centers before krejci and Bergeron came back and are channeling that.
