Description

Interested to see Vancouver's approach to a Horvat trade. If they are looking to retool, then a deal like this may make sense. A top 4 RHD and a middle six forward along with a first round pick could be a decent package. If Vancouver is looking to take on young players/prospects, then Holtz or Nemec along with a 1st round pick would likely be NJ's offer. If NJ is actually interested in Horvat, I'd have to assume that they'd want to use him just as the Devils have used Haula this year. Essentially, Horvat would take all faceoffs and would act as a responsible two way player on Jack's wing. Horvat would rack up a ton of goals next to Hughes and Mercer

As a Canucks fan I think that's a fair deal, from your perspective would they do Nemec and Sharangovich straight up for Bo?

If Vancouver doesn’t retain, I think we should make it a 2nd round pick. If they retain I’m down for that deal.

Not necessarily a rental. Try to lock him up for 7x8 and use him next to Hughes like we've used Haula

Nemec would probably only be in a deal for Hughes or Pettersson. Holtz more likely of the top prospects

I think the immediate gains in immediate competitiveness you made for the Devils here are close to minimal, if non-existent.
Severson is integral to how this team can consistently play 3 defense pairings that heavily tilt the ice in their favour.

Horvat is a good player but he's also rocking a shooting% close to 30, that's not sustainable.
Giving up a 1st, Sharangovich and Severson is nothing if not unwise if all you have to show for it is a good 2nd liner on a shooting bender.

My point is you're not really getting anything by doing this trade.

Sharangovich has runway to develop still (and is a pretty good middle sixer in his own right).
I get the allure of moving on from Severson, I just think of him as this season's rental and whatever gains made by getting Horvat in is fully offset by the losses moving Severson out presents at D.
That 1st should become a valuable ELC on the roster when the Devils are contending.

Dude is putting up like double his career WAR/60 and xWAR/60. Paying for the outlier just feels so unnecessary.

This is terrible fit for NJ.

Read what our GM is saying....he is not spending on rentals.

If we try to sign him as UFA in off-season, fine...but no chance we trade for him at deadline.
