Possible TDL move

Created by: pbesner30
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2023
Published: Jan. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think Jesse should have the chance to play somewhere else before he goes back to Finland. Boston could be a great fit for him, he is a big guy and he isn't afraid to go to the front of the net. Oilers could use a guy like Smith, almost the same cap hit as Jesse, both will likely test the market this summer (I highly doubt anyone, BOS or EDM is giving Jesse his QO). Smith would be more useful to the Oilers than Jesse I think. Let me know what you think about this trade idea.

When poolparty gets to Boston and looks good everyone will be screaming to resign him. It's gonna be Mike Reilly all over again.

Maybe, maybe not. I'd rather give him a shot and recreate the Zacha-Haula deal than having Smith at 3,1 scratched every night. Smith isn't a 4th line guy, this isn't his role.

Considering the source of this rumor it definitely isn’t happening.

Edmonton will send him to a rebuilding team for mid to late pick to clear cap space. The trade has no benefits at all for EDM and not really any for Boston as either as they need to clear that cap space, not use on it on another struggling player.

Jesse also has 89 hits. He would automatically become 3rd on the Bruins only behind Clifton (123) and Foligno (103). It would make us way heavier and harder to play against.

Smith could thrive playing with McDavid or Draisaitl. He would be a much more useful depth piece than Puljujarvi is right now.

He isn’t thriving playing with Bergy and Marchy. It’s a fantasy. Edm need cap space like Boston does. It’s a lateral move in cap and backwards move in talent. Makes zero sense for them.

This is an interesting idea. Not something based on trade rumor mills where Bruins are in on every big name target.

Both players can be better than they are. Worse case there is no loss.

Probably more likely than a block buster trade happening.
