Not trading mitts for picks. Hes been better. If its an actual player coming back then sure.

Only if Mitts has to be moved to make roster space, for let's say - Timo Meier.

I think that's pretty close for total value on Mitts, but I don't think they move him like that with no one else coming in

Well considering how many Sabre fans were trading Casey for a bag of pucks this trade looked good.
Buffalo adds a RHD, improves its forwards defense by inserting Asplund and adds a future second round pick.
Over all the Sabres reduce the goals against this year, cut their cap and add trade capital for next year with the second.

EDIT OK think of the trade Mittelstadt for Schenn, Asplund and a second.
Rasmus takes Casey's spot in the line up and Buffalo upgrades the RHD.
Buffalo does not need to score more goals, it needs to stop them.
Casey and Bryson have the teams worse +/-, this replaces their collective -28 with a collective +7 while ONLY losing 4 goals season to date.
That sounds like making the team a whole lot better!

Problem with that theory is now Casey seems to be finally putting it together, and his line is cooking...no longer a useless asset

I stopped reading after "asplund takes casey's spot" Asplund has looked pretty bad this season when he's been in the lineup and has little to no points at all. Jost and Olofsson are good enough defensively to make up for Casey. They should focus on moving out Jokiharju and Bryson for defenseman that have a single clue in their own end

Let's agree to disagree.
Asplund has played well enough, Peterka, Quinn and Jost pushed him out of the line up, just as Hinostroza was pushed to the AHL.
Jokiharju is just fine and may be the reason Power is doing well.
Adding Schenn over Mittelstadt is enough, the second is pure gravy.

Power is doing well because he's good all by himself, he pulled Clague out from the ashes for christ sake. Joki is lost in his own end and Asplund isnt a 3rd liner if you want to be taken seriously. just not a good take
