The price definitely shoots down to a lesser prospect w/o an extension. I’d say at most it would be the Fiala return in that case.

Welcome to CapFriendly. Sometimes, it's not too friendly.

One of the reasons why this would be a poor strategy is that Timo Meier turns 27 during the 2023-2024 season, so a one-year contract makes him an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2024.

After he signs QO?
That would be 1-year, $10 million...no retention, then straight to UFA.
And rules prohibit an extension when the trade is done.
NJD risks losing Bratt and/or a dman.

Maybe they get a couple of mid-round picks. But won't be from us.
