why would Carolina bail you out of the Bob contract?

It actually isn't a bail-out trade at all. Not when Florida is saddled with $5M in dead money for 3 seasons. It's a cheap way for the Canes to get a goalie that isn't ultra-injury prone and could look very good again behind the #1 defense in hockey.

Better ways to spend 5Mx4 then on Bob who looks washed

Florida isn't making the playoffs, nor does that offer get Gavrikov with an extension. Florida doesn't have their 1st this year. So no deal.

Firsts don’t go flying come the deadline. Gavy isnt the type of player to command one unless a team gets desperate for defense

How many goalies wouldn’t look washed behind Florida’s defense and under Maurice’s system on a team not built for such a system?

That aside, it’s a move that makes sense for the Canes, since you get a former Vezina winner, who would be an excellent mentor for Koochie next season and the seasons after, on a team that has a proven track record of being able to turn goalies careers around for the better. Assuming Bob waives, Florida clears up 5mil in cap space over the next 4 years, and get more of a return than having to just dump or buyout his contract. Bob is still a really good goalie, just severely overpaid.

Raanta is unlikely to be re-signed for next season, and Freddie might have to go with how injury riddled he has been. If you haven’t seen the UFA goalie class for this off season, it kind of sucks. The best options the Canes could target are very likely to re-sign with their current team, with the only question mark being Talbot and Freddie. If a team wants a quality goalie next year, it’s likely going to have to be via trade.

1. Why would the Lightning GIVE a 3rd for the Staal brothers who have been absolutely useless?
2. Why is Gudas the one to go when he has played fantastically with Mahura from an analytical standpoint?

1. To dump the Myers contract, one of the few mistakes (IMO) that BriseBois and Co. have ever made.
2. To sell pending UFAs in an off-year for Florida.

I don’t think Tampa is too concerned with that contract. It expires this summer and they aren’t adding anything than maybe a top 9 forward.

Florida is 3 games back of Pittsburgh and doesn’t have their first. They aren’t giving up. I actually like them over Pittsburgh considering Jarry’s PCS diagnosis.
