Description
I’ll be the first to say I don’t want to play the Devils in the playoffs lol. With that being said here’s my deadline moves / plan for the series

When the devils inevitably add another top 6 forward they’re gonna be extra hard to defend. Jack Hughes is having a Hart trophy calibre year playing with less than ideal wings. If they get someone to run with him it’s gonna be scary. If the current Palat-Nico-Bratt line stays together + a top 6 wing comes and plays with Hughes Gallant is gonna have to actually coach games and matchups strategically. Home ice is so important for this series

Line 1- This is our current top line. From the outside Vesey being here is questionable but he’s an elite Defensive forward and I want this line out here against the Hughes line. Zibanejad and Panarin don’t have the best 5v5 numbers together but they have a complimentary skill set and I want Mika out there against Hughes. Vesey is the north south complimentary player to help this line succeed

Line 2- This has probably been the second best 5v5 line we’ve had all year. The kids play their best when together. I’ve felt all year our playoff hopes rely on this line being good secondary 5v5 scorers and lately they’ve been. I want them getting heavy offensive zone faceoffs

Line 3- This will be the matchup line. Their 5v5 possession metrics have been really good with limited offensive zone stats. I want this line to be matched up with the Palat-Nico-Bratt line. Trocheck-Kreider have every good 5v5 numbers together with limited OZ starts. I think Barbashev is an effective grinder that will compliment this line well. This should be a good secondary scoring line and should limit chances against

Line 4- My goal with this line (and the Motte addition) is to be a defensive zone heavy 4th line that can be relied upon throughout the game. Gauthier and Goodrow have good 5v5 numbers together and Motte drives possession well despite a ridiculously low DZ start rate. This is a big upgrade over the current 4th line

Lindgren-Fox will be up against the Hughes line
Miller-Trouba will be up against the Nico line

Maatta is an enormous upgrade over Harpur and gives us a very solid 3rd pair. They’ll get heavy OZ starts but I’m confident in their ability to limit chances for the Devils bottom 6.

I don't think Home Ice Advantage is going to be that impactful

Devils Home Record: 13-10-2
Devils Road Record: 19-3-2

Plus with the teams being like 10 miles apart, each stadium is gonna be filled with fans of the other team

I think your barbashev offer is very close to what will happen. He’s probably worth a 2nd as a rental with potential to resign, but his cap hit is so low that the blues will probably squeeze out a tad more. 2nd and 3rd sounds pretty close to me. Perhaps the 3rd is pushed a year out.

Barbashev is one of the higher value quality options among all teams, who also isn’t good enough to command a first or a solid prospect.

Detroit is out of the playoff running at this point. There will be no miracle run. 13 games between now and the tdl. That's basically a game every other day. If Detroit can't start February 5-0, they stand little chance of getting in.

I think Maata should be the first chip to move, followed closely by Bertuzzi if he has any value. If Maata and company move early, they might garner a better return. There's going to be a lot of fire sales, and values will plummet close to the tdl.

Love the Barbashev and Motte moves

Think Maatta is an overpay and think NYR considering they re-signed Harpur expect him to be the 6th d in the playoffs- think theyd look for a less expensive option for depth d for a playoff run

For what it’s worth when Harpur signed the extension, Brooks wrote an article and mentioned Drury is looking for an upgrade at 3LHD because Gallant doesn’t play Harpur down the stretch in tight regular season games let alone tight playoff games

I agree with the above statement, but I want home ice for the last change so we can have our matchups set against Jack Hughes
