Monahan is hurt again, you won't be getting anything else for him now.

Not saying this trade is good, but Monahan could still be traded because he's not missing the rest of season or playoffs because of injury that need operations. Monahan is out to make sure he's healthy when is coming back. When he would that I don't know but that could be a good piece to add for playoff depth. It's that a first round value ? Maybe not but he have show that he can produce and be an important role into any team.

If he’s perfectly healthy, absolutely! But the problem is that he hasn’t been in years. Dude put together 15 solid games for the Habs before getting injured. That’s not enough of a sample to get a meaningful return like Girard and a 1st.

This is a very silly and very bad trade. Avs decline.

Yeah that true but we also need to look about what happen after he was out that the kind of impact a team looking.

Like I say not for this return for sure but I can see a team get him for a role of second or third center to finish the year / playoff when he come back. It's not like if he's finish for the rest of the years and won't return before the summer.

First round picks and young top 4 defensemen don’t get traded for rentals that hopefully will be back before the playoffs. This deal is bad.

Girard makes 5 million a year, Colorado doesn't have the cap space for next year to keep him and they won the cup without him last year, he will be trade at the deadline or the draft wait and see.

I disagree, but even so: there’s a big difference between a draft day trade to rebalance your team and a deadline trade where you move a top 4 defenseman and a 1st for spare parts.

This is a bad trade.

Jordan Harris spare parts ?? You get a top 6 D (in a few years a top 4 D) and he cost only 850k. I will laugh when Girard is traded for something like this.

Jordan Harris is a fine young defenseman. But he’s only 18 months younger than Girard, still a small sample size in the NHL, and would be a 6D on the Avs at best.

Not only do you have the Avs losing the trade, you have them adding in a 2023 1st round pick. This trade isn’t tethered in reality.

Nope, I think we’re in agreement that Monahan isn’t gonna return a 1st. If he’s even back playing by the TDL, it’s probably a conditional pick based on health/games played. Maybe like a 5th that can upgrade with some conditions.

If he does have to be traded they’ll get a lot better than that and sure wont pay their first.
