Yeah the horvat trade kinda made the market for sellers bad and buyers good lmao
That's exactly what I said at the beginning of the year lmoa, the weaker drafts are typically sellers' market whereas the stronger draft (the Deep and talented ones) are buyers' market due to how valuable those picks become. I think the Horvat trade/Monahan and Edmunson injuries kinda killed Hughes' hope of getting another 1rst this year bc now both of them are 5-8 range in their respective position (for Monahan: Barbashev, ROR, Domi and Teows and for Eddy: Chychrun, Schenn, Ghost, Gavrikov, Karlson, Klinberg and Dumba). That would be 13 first round picks with the winger/Goalie market still there (Meier, Boeser, Tarasenko, Kane, Nyquist, (as much as Blue Jackets fans don't want to admit it) Jenner, Reimer etc.) In my opinion, based on the teams that aren't tanking, there could be a maximum of 21 2023 First round draft picks potentially in circulation (NYR being the only one with 2)
Let's just say for the sake of arguing: ROR gets one, Kane gets one, Teows gets one, Chychrun gets one, Karlson gets one, Klingberg gets one, Meier gets one and Tarasenko gets one for sure. 5 teams that I have mentioned are either to scared to go for it or satisfied with their roster. This now leaves 8 first round draft picks in circulation. This would also be the most draft picks traded since the 2007 NHL season.
You have so little supply for such high demand that I don't think either gets a 2023 1rst round pick, just like I said at the beginning of the season. If you are still reading this, thank you for the amount of time it took to read this.
