tdl building a 3rd line

Created by: leafsFan1996
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 6, 2023
Published: Feb. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
3rd line has some scoring punch and isn't a liability defensively. Leafs need some more scoring outside the big 4.

Rumours of Van buying out Garland, this saves them cap in the long run to retain plus they can get a small asset

Kerf makes only 750k in real money, a team like Minny or Car might want him for a 2nd or 3rd. Useful player but Barbashev and Accari add a more physical element that the leafs should look to add.

try knies on the 4th line, i he still needs developing there are plenty of others that can fill the 4lw role, he just has a higher offensive upside than the other options (Holmberg, Mccman, ZAR, Hunt), and depth scoring has been an issue in the playoffs.

I literally put "any team" them or minny makes sense to me, but it's not crazy to get a 3rd for Kerfoot

You literally put ‘Kerf makes only 750k in real money, a team like Minny or Car might want him for a 2nd or 3rd.’

Why are carolina and Minnesota motivated by him only making 750k?

Look at your description. There's 0 chance Carolina wants him. They've got 10 mil in cap space to spend, and an owner worth more than MLSE. Organizations with that kind of financial backing do not care if he makes 750k real money, go pay Arizona to take him with that logic.

Carolina notorious squeezes players, and minny is paying a bunch for players to not play form them.

either way he's fair value for his AAV, a 3rd is a fair price, and it doesn't have to be them, literally any team for a 3rds.

Being a leafs fan on here is crazy, Connor Brown went for a 2nd and he makes 3.6, similar players but Kerf can play center. Lars Eller makes 3.5, if Carolina traded a 3rd for him I don't think anyone would bat an eye.

I think it's a bad move to trade him, but this is under the assumptions that they want to buy him out this summer. It makes more sense to retain 1.55 than deal with this buyout

At this point in the season the only thing that matters is cap hit, not real dollars. Unless you are trying to dump him to Arizona or someone else. But a winning team doesn’t care.

I doubt you’ll find much of an offer for Kerfoot in this tight cap times with Kerfoot scoring at a .44. Ppg rate knowing that Toronto is moving him to upgrade.

Yeah but they won't buy him out tho so it's kinda of a moot point
