Establishing a few points up-front:
- 5-6M of cap space has been valued at the price of a 1st round pick in recent years.
- Edmonton has reportedly been trying to offload Puljujarvi.
- San Jose is looking at getting out of Karlsson's contract to improve their Bedard odds without crippling their capspace.
- The Habs are still early in their rebuild such that only years 4 & 5 would potentially need the capspace identified here, but by then the cap is expected to be above 92M.

Habs don't want to retain on their own long term contracts but you think they will retain on another teams?! Montreal will be looking to compete in 2024-25 having 2 mil in dead cap for an additional 2 years after that severely handicaps them

I love karlsson playing well again but I think your insane if you think teams are paying multiple 1st rounders and high end prospects for him.
