why would either team do this (also no way the caps and rangers would make a trade involving a first or a roster player)

Horrible for Washington. LD is not a need with Alexeyev and Fehervary, and Kravstov is worthless.

No roster spot for either player in rangers lineup
Caps have one Defenseman under contract next year, and will be tight on the cap hit. They have no need for their 1st as they should look for a quick retool if they wanna stay competitive
Washington is a Russian factory so I feel Kravtsov can get utilized there

Jones >> Alexeyev, and plays a different style then both those two
Tell me you haven’t followed Kravtsov situation, without telling me you haven’t watched Kravtsov situation

This is a NHL EA franchise mode deal, not gonna happen IRL. Plus there values are each closer to early 3rds than a combined 1st in a stacked draft. Even 32nd OVR would be too much

You are attempting to get a 1st round pick for a LD with 38 career games who doesn't match Alexeyev in what Washington needs, there is a very small gap between the two in anything and Alexeyev is only lagging behind in development due to injuries. Kravtsov is, in fact, worthless. He's a 23 year old with 48 career NHL games, has been given opportunity after opportunity to prove himself yet hasn't. He even failed to make a mediocre bottom 6 in NY last year, draft pedigree can only get you so far. Washington has absolutely 0 need for Kravtsov with 10 forwards under contract and prospects like McMichael and Lapierre on track for the NHL, and with Fehervary and Alexeyev already around, there is zero chance Washington would pay a 1st round pick for the two of them, especially when that 1st round pick could be used for improvements that are far more important.

No way you get a first in this draft for a couple distressed assets. It's over, we've shot ourselves in the foot to prove a point that there are consequences for not following orders? We'll be lucky to get anything for either of them. In a calendar year since the season started, we'll be able to say we gave away 3 cost controlled NHL ready players with upside because of a lack of organizational imagination. But I bet Rangers fans will be happy to have paid this price so that they don't have to watch a player who doesn't finish every check.

Every ranger prospect is “garbage” on this site.. don’t defend yourself it’s a good trade I just don’t see the rangers wanting futures for either guy

Jones especially is a great prospect, and trade piece for them

Says the fan who’s GM gave up 13th ovr for Romanov xD
You undervalue Jones a lot tho, he’s NHL ready, only reason he is in AHL is to get significant ice time since Rangers top-4 is locked and young

Only reason I want a pick for them is cause the Rangers roster is full, and this gives them more time. Either for the prospect himself, or for future TDL ammo

I mean that Romanov deal sucked but that doesnt mean that a 22 year old, undersized defenseman with 2 points in 16 games and a well-known bust are worth a 1st rounder. Plus deals like that dont happen.

I’d expect Krav to get moved for a guy in a similar situation (change of scenery). Ie Puhljarvi, but he makes too much money

Since you like using games played vs points
Romanov with 133 NHL games had 18 points at the time of his trade
Jones have 8 points in 38 NHL games
Jones would’ve had 10 more points then Romanov if his P/GP went over to as many games as Romanovs 133GP

Bro Romanov is not good 😭 that was a horrific trade. Romanov is also a defensive defenseman who lays a lot of hits, not an offensive juggernaut.

Romanov has played 3 seasons and has never finished a year with a negative WAR; Zac Jones has played three and has always finished with a negative WAR. You cannot compare them. And thats not be vouching for Romanov, its just proving that Jones is not good.

caps could be a fit for kravstov in FA when the rangers don't qualify him. jones is a fine prospect but not at a position of need for the caps at all and probably the last area they would spend a first round pick on.

Truth is Kravtsov plays like his baby face, he'll never stick in nhl, period. Jones is too small to stick as well. Worth a 2nd or 3rd each. It has nothing to do with coaching or developing. Lesson learnt, don't pull a Gordon and draft flaky euros or small d
